However, with a couple of drinks $20! each) for our table of two and mandatory 22% gratuity our tab was nearly $375. Decent experience, but completely overpriced in the neighborhood of a Bay Area Michelin star restaurant, and this is not in that realm.
My husband and I went there with two other couples. We all decided to use the set menu (5 course dinner) which was a big mistake! Each course was one or the most two small bites. The main course was duck which tasted so bad that despite my hunger I only took one bite and left it behind. To make the story short they made a little short than $1000 from our table with only two drinks and we all left the restaurant still hungry. Tomo is highly overpriced for what they offer and I don’t recommend it!!
I've been here more than once and reviewing based on consistency. Did the tasting menu with add ons and the wine pairings as well as ala carte in the bar a few times. Both experiences were awesome. Great playful cocktails! And the food! Awesome flavors coming out. Never left hungry. Wonderful joint in WC.
We ordered fix menu. Five very small portions, of two appetizers, two entrees, and one dessert. Cost us about 150$/person with gratuity. Only two items out of the five were Good Enough, The soup appetizer and the fish entree. The other three were not impressive, either because of the portions, or the taste. One of the entrees, the duck, was poorly seasoned, tasted gamey, with a raw like smell, and hardly edible. The waitress was not even curious to ask about The almost untouched duck entrees that were cleared from our table. When we mentioned it to her, she had no reply. The dessert was melted ice cream, if you like soupy ice cream.
Very excellent food and service. I am trying to understand why the ratings are 3.7 as of November 2023. It is going to be a more adventurous take than other places. It was perfectly fine and what I was expecting. We had the set menu:1. Dungeness Crab Corn Chawanmushi: An excellent small dish with great flavor. As with any shellfish, be mindful of the shell.2. Beets, Amazake Yogurt, Shiso Thinly sliced beets with a nice balance of yogurt and shiso for the sauce3. Albacore, Savoy Cabbage, Preserved Tomato, Currants: The cabbage absorbs the sauce and flavor4. Duck, Chioggia Radicchio, Red Onion, Vin Jaune: Perfectly cooked (We were guessing it cooked sous vide with a sear finish on a grill)5. Blueberry, Vanilla, Kombu, Rice Vinegar: I wondered how it would work with rice vinegar, but it turned out nicely.6. (Not part of the set menu) Added Sea Lettuce House rolls: Great umami flavor; a great idea to add it to house rolls.Notes: Service charge is 22%. Corkage fee is $50 for a 750ml bottle
