My boyfriend and I were taking a trip up the 395 freeway and we made a quick stop at Toms place cafe for some food. I got a grilled cheese with the soup of the day (tomato basil and my boyfriend got the patty melt and also a tomato basil soup let me tell you! The food was amazing! I would definitely recommend the stop and to try the tomato soup if they have it! The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming! We were very impressed :
Breakfast, here, was fantastic. I would post photos but the plates are all empty. Portions are large. Family had French Toast, Biscuits and Gravy, eggs, bacon, home fries and hash browns. Everything was good to go, and service was friendly. Definitely a place to stop if you are camping, fishing, or riding the motorcycles up 395.
I really like to eat here. the food is well prepared and comes out hot! i am partial to their patty melts. not greasy at all...sorry if you are disappointed. comes with great fries too. not greasy. the kind where the outside is crispy and the inside is fluffy! great service and the fountain drinks are huge! only thing is it is an old bldg and the air conditioning/ventilation can be a bit musty. btw next to the outside patio is a rushing creek/lil waterfall. really nice! oh! no dogs allowed on patio so gotta leave them home.
We have been eating here for over 30 years and still seeing steady decline especially since the greatest server, Cheryl retired. The place does some business due to being the only place along the sierra highway between bishop and mammoth. The service is ok and the prices are fair but you really have to hunt around for something good, like the Ortega burger I had. It was very good and tasty. But friends had the wings and they were way over cooked, like they had been redipped after having been prior fried. Watch out for the ice tea, it's good but they charge $3.50 per glass, ridiculous in an outpost like this. Don't sucker in for the mexican food nite, even tho the cook is hispanic, i think, it's not very good food. Just have something else on Tuesday nite. This is just going to be a once-in-awhile diner stop for us now.
