The Old Wellington Inn is a historical establishment, dating back to the 16th century, where important commercial transactions took place in Manchester. It was the birthplace of John Byron, a key figure in the British phonetic system. Despite the bombings during World War II that devastated much of Manchester, the Old Wellington Inn miraculously remained undamaged. The building was declared a city monument in 1948, adding to its historical significance. The interior is decorated with charm and the selection of local beers is excellent. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and reasonable prices, especially considering its central location near the cathedral. This is a special place that offers a glimpse into Manchester's past while still being a part of the vibrant modern city center.
The Old Wellington Inn is one of the historic sites (built in the 16th century) where the most important commercial transactions were made in the city of Manchester. It was the birthplace of John Byron, one of the revolutionaries of the British phonetic system and miraculously it was one of the few historic buildings that did not suffer damage by the bombings during the Second World War, which triggered the entire centre of Manchester. This makes the visual features of this place contrast to the modern city center. In 1948 the building was declared a Monument of the city of Manchester. Apart from an excellent selection of beers from the area, the place is tastefully decorated, and we were surprised by the quality of the food and the price, for nothing nonsense considering that it is in the center of the city (at the back of the cathedral) and its architectural and renowned characteristics. Its culinary specialties include cakes or foot, so they are very famous, highlighting chicken cake, veal meat and beer, and vegetable cake. Likewise the lamb and the typical sausages of the area are other dishes to take into account. If we want to eat in the center traditional British food of the central area, in a typical building, this is definitely the most recommended place in the city of Manchester.

Nestled near Manchester Cathedral in the city's historic center, the Old Wellington pub truly adds to the overall atmosphere with its charming old-style architecture that makes you feel like you're stepping into a medieval tavern! One unique feature of this beloved pub is its beer tasting experiences, offering a wide range of guest ales straight from the barrel. If the weather is nice, be sure to take advantage of the outdoor terrace, although it can get quite crowded with office workers enjoying their post-work drinks.
