He was very kind and attentive, and the service was outstanding!!!My husband always has the Broasted Chicken and it was delicious and I had a Niko burger, which is always so good! Thank you again for a wonderful evening!
My husband and I along with our 2 small children were visiting Union, IL from over 80 miles away. After our event, we googled restaurants near us to find a place for dinner. We decided on Nikos and we are so glad we did. Our waitress Jan was amazing! So thoughtful and friendly. The food was also very good! And very affordable! We will definitely visit Nikos again if we are in the area.Kid-friendliness: The kids menu had a great variety.
I really wanted to like this place, but it just didn't end up that way, sadly. This place is a really cool looking upscale bar and grill that we chose because it was close to the train museum we were visiting in Union, Illinois and the menu looked pretty great. I'm always a huge proponent of a meatloaf too.Our server was incredibly attentive, there was absolutely no fault there. There was an event that did cause a long backup in the kitchen, but this was communicated to us apologetically and clearly. We had no issue with that, either. The issue was the quality of the food.We had:Cheese curdsFrench onion soupWedge salad2 x broccoli cheddar soupMeatloafShrimp scampiFried shrimpKids Mac n cheeseKids buttered noodlesThe curds were awesome! Pretty standard, I would say. French onion soup was lacking the crostini and tasted like it was from one of those soup packets. The Wedge was wilted, and the dressingwas flavorless, The broccoli cheddar was decent, but on the salty side. Meatloaf was totally gamey, although the mashed potatoes were good. The shrimp scampi and fried shrimp were ok. My one kid ate the buttered noodles without incident, but the other had zero interest in the Mac n cheese. Upon further inspection from me, it had little taste at all. That kid, by the way, will usually eat literally anything, so this is saying something. All in all, for a fairly expensive meal, we were totally underwhelmed with the quality of the food. If we find ourselves back out that way, we would not go back, and would hesitate to visit any of Niko's other locations.
The R&R steakhouse legacy lives on at Nikos. Very supper club-ish, with a large bar and strangely small dining area. The food was great, and since I hadn 't been here since RR closed I was hesitant to try it all of these years. The fish fry was excellent, as was the well kept ambiance and even down to the linen napkins, the entire experience was much higher than a normal Nikos restaurant. We will come back to try more off of the menu.
We went there with a large group, and they were really accommodating, even to the extent of giving us all individual bills. The service was good considering the size of our party, and the food arrived promptly and was given to the correct diners, none of this “who ordered…?”They added a service charge to our bills, quite reasonable I think with the number of people in our group. There seem to be a lot of places called Niko’s around the area, this one is on Route 20 in Coral, although the address is Merango.
