Feedback gevenWe came here a few months ago and decided to return on our next visit to Margaret River. We are so glad we did beautiful food fabulous service. Our dog Gertrude was totally spoilt by Leanne and we were made to feel so welcome. The seafood platter was excellent, next time we visit we will return for lunch . Great place that uses local produce and extends a warm welcome to customers.
This restaurant run by a very friendly couple (Swiss and German) relatively recently, have established this top gourmet establishment at the top of Margaret River town itself. Despite eating at several other highly rated restaurants in the town, this takes top marks by a "mile". This is fine dining at its best. A very relaxing and elegant atmosphere despite the desire to meet everyone's demands.Although the restaurant is focused on it's fish dishes, my wife and I chose the venison medallions with red cabbage, brocholini and asparagus with a potato "cake" and small cooked tomatoes. The dish was amazing! Served hot and medium rare as requested it would have not been out of place at any top restaurant in a major city in Australia or Europe for that matter. Deserts were also beautifully prepared and sensibly portioned. The dark chocolate mouse was the best I have tasted and my wife's panacota was also exceptional. The wine selection given the location in Margaret River was also expertly chosen with a wide price range on offer. While not "cheap", (overall price was $165 for two including our chosen gratuity of 18%) it certainly represented the best value in the area, given the quality and the enjoyment we experienced. It is clear that many others feel the same way as there were no tables free even early in the week -- you will need to book!!
It was raining cats and dogs when I reached this cosy restaurant in the centre of Margaret River. The landlord, Herbert, turned out to be from Bavaria and made me feel welcome from the very first moment. I enjoyed a delicious three-course dinner with fried calamari, seafood chowder and mousse au chocolat all prepared by their great French Chef and paired with one of the best white wines of my life, from local vineyard Vasse Felix (see the picture), thanks to the advice of Herbert's wife Silvia. This absolutely fair value for money restaurant will make you enjoy a very good time
Made a 7.30 pm reservation on a cold wet Saturday night. Was surprised how few people were there. On arrival we were given a choice of a regular table for 2 or to sit on a cosy sofa near the open fire. We chose a regular table rather than to be so low to the ground. There service was swift. We were offered water and the specials explained. I chose the scallops entree and the wife decided to skip entree in favour of mains. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the accompaniment with celery and walnuts was great. I had fillet for mains. It was slightly more than the medium rare requested but very good served with vegetables. The wife's barramundi was well presented and again well cooked. We both chose wine by the glass which was good. For dessert we had the special apple tart with cream which was unusual but very good.I have marked down to four stars due to pricing. We had an entertainment card which reduced the price to what I consider the correct price for the restaurant. Of course the majority of guests do not have this facility. The price of the baguette is too expensive.
Only reason why we went to Katch Up was to get amongst that Seafood Chowder. Every Polynesian/Maori we know would be Devo if they had to taste what we did. Salty and the smallest portion considering it was a main. Y'all need to get a recipe off an islander, I can make a better seafood chowder at home.
