Considering the high price of the bowl, I believe this was a reasonable request. Overall, the service was for takeout during dinner.
I have never encountered such insincere individuals. They put on a facade of being pleasant, but they are anything but. Initially, the portion sizes were satisfactory, but it seems that with each visit, they become increasingly stingy. I recently paid over $20 for a bowl of rice with minimal toppings. It may be my final visit there, as it is not worth the price. Ordering extra ingredients is a hassle, as they pretend to add more but then remove them. The service is frustrating. Takeout is recommended.
I used to visit this restaurant regularly and purchase a large bowl for $34 each time. I would get my card stamped and after 8 stamps, I would have spent $170. Today, when I bought my 9th bowl for $34, I found out that they no longer accept the stamp card. I have now spent $204 in total. I was trying to support a local business, but I will take my business elsewhere now that they no longer accept their cards. The employee at the counter found it amusing, but I am not pleased with this change.
If you are looking for a nearby option and don't want to drive too far, this restaurant is a good choice. While there is another place in Salinas that is cheaper and offers better food, we still come here when we're in a rush in Marina.
I typically dine at this restaurant about three times a week and have always been satisfied with the food and portion sizes. Although the service can be a bit rushed and the staff tends to talk over customers and interrupt them while ordering, it hasn't been a major issue for me. However, during my recent visit, the owner's behavior left me feeling frustrated. While I don't mind paying $19 for a bowl with three scoops of assorted fish, crab, and toppings, I noticed that they have started overloading the bowls with rice and toppings while skimping on the amount of fish. This makes me question if they are trying to cut corners without customers noticing. I hope this is not the direction the restaurant is heading, as it has been a favorite spot for me to visit multiple times a week in the past.
