First went there about 20 years ago. Came back 3 years later, and Mike remembered me from our pleasant conversation. Only been back about 7 times, since it 's a 9 hour drive from home. Took my wife paddling the Apostle Islands 4 years ago, and suggested a side trip to Mike Jean 's. How far out of our way? she asked. Only 2 1/2 hours each way. She was game. After the visit, she tells everybody that drives within 3-4 hours of Marinette on a Friday night that it 's worth the detour.
