Sumi Korean - Markham

I don't understand why this placed closed. One of the best Korean restaurants in town. We ate here twice during our 5-day trip to Toronto. It's THAT GOOD. The grilled duck is HEAVENLY! Wrapped in pickled radish and cabbage....mmmmm, my mouth is watering typing this! If anyone knows where they hv moved to, please post here. If you are the owner reading this, pls consider reopening. I'm desperately looking for a good Korean duck place and haven't had any luck.

Love the menu variety of Korean duck and chicken dishes (as well as others). Great service. And lots of banchan and service items too!

Was searching for Korean food around this area and found this hidden gem. Food is amazing here. The environment is clean, decently decorated and servers are friendly. We came in at 9:45 pm and didn't realized they closed at 10:30pm, but they still treated us very well. I ordered a grilled mackerel with soy bean paste soup and my bf got a duck soup with rice. Both of them were tasty and fresh! The side dishes were very impressive as well, each of them were unique and fresh! I didn't expect to have 7 of them as some restaurant only provide 5 dishes max. I also love how they served me hot tea instead of room temp tea (yaaasssss). Will definitely come back sometime and would like to try their chicken dishes!

Highly recommend This place if you are looking for authentic Korean whole chicken soup. The chicken was cooked in hot pot and then cut in pieces in front of you. 5-6 Side dishes are served. You can dip the chicken with home-made sauce or just eat simply. After you finish the chicken, you can choose rice or noodle to put in the chicken soup. The waiter will cook that for you. We chose rice, which was chicken porridge. Tastes soo good! 1 entire chicken is $36.95 which is enough for two people. We also had cold noodle, which is refreshed. This is the best Korean noodle we've ever had here. Definitely will come back!

In my opinion, Sumi currently ranks supreme in respect to quality and authenticity, and I've been to countless Korean restaurants. Although the price is slightly above average, the food has consistently been fresh and perfectly seasoned/marinated, and portions always more than generous. Service also consistently amazing, water refilling is on point and staff will take the initiative to refill side dishes (which are also superior to other places in quality and selection). There is not much hype for this place, I suppose because it's tucked inside a plaza, which is good because you get a spacious dining experience where staff is more attentive to your table. If I had friends fly in from Korea and they wanted Korean food, this would be where I take them to impress!
