Travel to matera in september 2017 and did the obligatory sassi experience. one of the high points of the day was over this charming caffe / restaurant stolpern. it is located under one of the very steep paths within the sassi and next to another restaurant....The restaurant made quite a good trade especially because it provides outdoor seating. However, the statoria braceria has only inside seats, but this is part of the charm. it is a family-run venue and the owner was exemplary with his courtesy service, helpfulness in explaining the menu (my Italian is almost not existent) and a soothing demon. the local kitchen we ordered (ours were vegetarian based) was tasty, the beer was cold, the wine was excellent and the coffee perfect. the cost was very reasonable and the experience invaluable. when they visit this beautiful and sturdy opposite, a relaxing meal will be a reward in itself.
An amazing, welcoming, small restaurant that is run by a few. we had a plate of cheese and meat to start with delicious bruscetta with tomato and then we had orchid with broccoli sauce. that was much and very cheap! also had delicious white wine, only...5 euro. in any case, they recommend this place, especially if they do not want tourist places.
The restaurant doesn't look that impressive from the street and the next door restaurant has an inviting looking terrace right next to it but something about it attracted us in and we were so impressed with the place that we went there again...the next day. It's run by a lovely couple, who really care about the food. The service is quite relaxed proper slow food' so don't go there if you're in a hurry. The first day I had the beans and chicory and Rob had orrechiette with tomato sauce both delicious. Today I had the pignata (lamb stew) and it was the best dish I've had in ages Rob had another pasta dish which was delicious too. A lovely pitcher of red wine to go with it perfect! When we went in there were two of us when we left the restaurant was full another 18 people.
Charming little place away from the tourist away! the orrechetti and cavatelli pastas were handmade and good! I love the little weinglas and not the cookie type!
