I did not care for the entree I ordered however the sides and biscuits were good. She did offer to replace what I ordered and I declined. Our waitress was great. She went above and beyond to meet our needs. The porkchop was good as well.
I've passed by many times over the years finally stopped by last night. I wanted some veggies before I hit the gym. However, I saw on the outside board that there was a grilled chicken livers special thought I'd try it since it came with two sides. The gentleman who took my order was very nice. He tried to coax me to order whatever I wanted, but I guess I convinced him that I was being strict with the veggies, saying ok, no bread. Lol I paid for my order went to Harris Teeter to pick up a few things. I believe he said my order would be ready in 10 minutes. When I returned, he seemed concerned. He said he'd been looking for me because they ran out of chicken livers. He apologized more than once. I told him not to worry about it as I was only trying them because of the special. I just wanted something warm as it was chilly outside. I ordered a veggie plate with cabbage, fried okra, fried zucchini. He gave me $5 back, the difference between my first order and my veggie plate. It didn't take long for my order to come out. I splurged on the fried veggies; hadn't had fried zucchini before. Everything was good filling. It could've used a little seasoning. I'm a fan of pepper, especially on the cabbage. The order hit the spot, kept me warm, was just enough before the gym. Will return to try more menu items.
I had one of their daily specials grilled shrimp with 2-sides. I selected cabbage and green beans. I was seated promptly. The food was very good. Staff were not very friendly, only provided necessary service but never came back to see if I needed any refills for my drink or if I wanted any dessert or anything. The 3 stars are for the food as it was good.
My first time here and it was absolutely delicious. I 've eaten at several homestyle restaurants but this has been the best so far. Pictured is the country style steak over rice with gravy and both fried squash and fried zucchini. Everything was perfectly seasoned and tasty!
Sweet folks working here. Since visiting NC I guess I wanted to experience more southern home cooking. So for dinner I had to try the fried chicken. Crisp light breading seemed great but truly lacked flavor. It needed at the bare minimum salt and pepper both as a brine or inches breading batter. I asked the cute waitress about it and she said they have so many local oldsters that complain about seasonings they just don't add them in any more. Sad because it had the perfect crispy skin. Mashed potatoes had been left in water too long and had a too soft texture. The savior on the mashed was a nice brown gravy. The fried okra tasty and crisp just like my Daddy fixed. Waitress was busy and I could have used another napkin from the fried chicken and a water refill. She did get me a glass of milk quickly.
