Debacle. That is the only word to describe the 'service' in the dining room at the Mawson Lakes Hotel tonight. Along with some colleagues I order dinner and 'am advised there will be a 30 minute wait. 50 minutes later, and 10 minutrs after the only one of seven meals came out, one of our group asked the staff where the rest were. A check of the kitchen revealed, nowhere. They weren't even started. The orders were taken again. And only after someone asked how long they would take did the waitress think to push them up the queue in the kitchen. A round of complimentary drinks to apologise made it seem like things were about to improve. And to be fair they did for my colleagues. Two of us had ordered the Beef Burger, me medium-rare, him as it came. When our burgers arrived at the table with nothing to indicate which was which we asked the waitress who took one away to the kitchen to inquire. She returned saying they were both cooked as they come. I repeated my order was medium-rare and she said 'medium-well', and turned away. NO, MEDIUM-RARE! I exclaimed. Returning yet again to the kitchen she was back in under a minute to tell me that they couldn't do medium-rare. Having now waited over an hour and ten minutes I said that's fine I'll take a refund and leave. Asking her manager how to provide a refund he asked me what the problem was. I told him the whole story and when I had finished he said "We can't cook a burger medium-rare due to Australian Food Safety Standards." I explained that that was not factually correct. And if the kitchen didn't have meet necessary hygiene standards that's fine, but then I should have been told that my order couldn't be fulfilled when I made it, not more than seventy minutes later. Had I been told that a medium-rare burger wasn't possible when ordering then I could have made a different choice at the time and aside from waiting seventy minutes everything would have been fine. Not to worry I will never return to the Mawson Lakes Hotel.
