Lotus Inn - McAllen

After reading reviews, we decided to give this restaurant a try only to be disappointed. The rice and ramen noodles was tasteless and while chewing the noodles felt like chewing heated plastic.

I am not exaggerating when i say this is my favorite restaurant. i am now 24 and had been going to this restaurant for as long as i can remember, and my parents had been going to it long before i was even born. for a long time this was the only chinese restaurant in mcallen and a lot of my family's first time ever having chinese food was here (if i remember correctly, it's taiwanese). i have literally traveled all over the world and cannot find a place that tastes exactly like lotus inn. those who have been coming here for years know for a fact that the same family has been running this place since the 80s and you can really tell it has that home-made, grandparent-made flavor. their chicken and cabbage soup is the most comforting soup and i miss it so much. i always get their chicken chow mein and it's really hard to find that exact flavor anywhere. the closest i got was a random taiwanese restaurant in london. there is literally no other place like this for me and my family! i hope they re-open soon and that it has the same flavor! thank you for bringing chinese food to south texas out of all places! 太感谢了！我希望我再次可以吃你们的菜。

Sweet and sour chicken was not very good. Sweet and sour sauce tasted like tomato sauce. I've had better. Chun King sweet and sour sauce would have been better.
