On April 8, 2016 my girlfriend, her daughter and I had lunch at this nice Medellin bar/restaurant called Aguacate (avocado). I read about this restaurant somewhere and had been wanting to try it for awhile. The restaurant is next to Parque la Presidenta at the beginning (north end) of the gold mile. One side of the restaurant is open to the park with a nice view of trees, flowers and birds. There is a large tree growing through the middle of the restaurant and they have about 20 tables. Their menu includes a large drink menu. I ordered their small rib plate, which came with little sweet potatoes, and a cookies and cream milk shake. My girlfriend ordered their fish which was a special for the day with a guanabana juice and her daughter Laura ordered another special a chicken plate and a coconut lemonade. Each entree included a small tomato and lettuce salad. Everyone enjoyed their food and the total bill came to 81,180 including tip (about $27).Btw, Trip Advisor always asks if the restaurant being reviewed is considered to be “cheap eats”. To Colombians this restaurant probably would not be considered cheap, considering there are places where you can get a lunch of the day for 5,000 or 7,000 pesos (less than $3). I’ll leave that judgment to the Colombians who write their reviews in Spanish. For me, an American, any restaurant meal that costs less than $10 per person I consider to be cheap eats.Btw, to the other frequent contributors – show a little respect, the spelling of this country is COLOMBIA – there is no “U”!This restaurant is at Calle 7D #39-262 - a short walk from Parque Poblado. At the time of this review (April, 2016) there were 3,100 pesos to the US Dollar.
This is a nice little restaurant overlooking one of the many green area parks in Poblado. Our lunch was delicious - grilled beef with rice and another beef dish with salsa. Their bar menu was fairly large for a small place and the wifi 100%. It was a delicious relaxing meal. The restaurant is located next to the Dan Carlton Hotel.

With as many restaurants as there are in the Poblado area of Medellin, you would think that there would be more with typical Colombian dishes. But not so. Many are trying to copy American or Italian or French cuisine. When I travel abroad I always try and find places that serve typical local food otherwise, you're missing out on one of the best reasons to travel! Aguacate Arbol serves wonderfully prepared typical Colombian dishes. My serving of beef tongue prepared in a savory sauce was excellent. Being able to sit outside on the side patio allowed me to take in the views of the adjacent park as well as people watch everyone pass on the nearby sidewalk. They even had live music to entertain the clientele. Quality food at very reasonable prices.
