Really great food with lovely staff and an amazing atmosphere. The Caesar salad was absolutely huge and the value for money was great
We have been here a few times now, and there are always some really good dishes on the menu. I really loved the texture of the pan fried gnocchi, the menu said chikn and mushroom ragout, but it seemed very different to what I thought a ragout was, also it was more like eggplant and mushroom. It was still tasty, and the parsnip cream was nice. The beer battered cauliflower had a nice twist being salt and vinegar crusted, I loved the vinegar taste, but it was a little too salty for me. It came with a nice slaw which had apple in it. The spicy corn fritters were a letdown, as they were soft/spongy balls, and didn't have much taste to them, I actually couldn't taste the corn. It was taco night as well, and I really love coming to the Carringbush when they're doing tacos. The fish tempura was the perfect fishy texture, the beef fajita was a little sweet for me as it was in a hoisin based sauce, and the pumpkin, black bean, cumin rice, avo taco was surprisingly really good (surprising to me as I dislike pumpkin). It was like a burrito in a taco. For dessert we ordered the tiramisu baked cheesecake which unfortunately was a real disappointment, the texture was not at all reminiscent of cheesecake. Instead it was very dense, and quite dry. It came with a very watery cream sauce, and a chocolate crumb which I really enjoyed, I think it was blitzed oreos. I find the food to be very expensive here, and on the whole, I can't really justify coming here more often. Also, I always get excited seeing the lasagne on the menu, it sounds delicious, but then I realise it's not vegan. It would be SO easy to make it vegan!
Carringbush has changed their menu since I last visited and I am impressed. I ordered the mushroom gnocchi and wow I’m impressed. It was pan fried and the mushroom was flavoursome with dollops of parsnip cream. My non vegan friends enjoyed their meals too. I think there’s something for everyone here. Good work carringbush.
Now been a few times with Vegan girlfriends who live close by. The food is passable and there are some OK selections. Reminds me of my back street locals at home in London. About the beer and football with a naff retro pub vibe thrown in. Really good beer selection I was told, but wine on tap was missable and cocktails inconsistent. The Melbourne Vegan/Veg scene has a lot better to offer than here.
