Been here twice and love the food it's genuine Indonesian but the restaurant space is bare and basic and not kept clean - if they could fix this we would be there every week - a painting or two on the walls would be good it demonstrates a lack of care - sad frankly
The food was excellent and good service. The location is good as it is in CBD. Free water and food price was very reasonable and portion was good.
I visited this restaurant very often. The grilled chicken (ayam bakar) and spicy ribs (Iga balado) are to die for. Their sambal is super spicy and tastes really good.Compare to other Indonesian restaurants in Melbourne CBD, Fat Oma has the best taste of Indonesian food. I love to come few times a week just to try different menu, and all of them were good. My only concern about this place is just the cleanliness of the restaurant. The staff are too busy inside the kitchen and seems careless with the cleanliness at the dining area. Dirty plates were everywhere every time I visited this place. One day when I had my lunch there, I was the only customer at that time, I saw 8 tables full of dirty plates that haven't been clear up yet since the last customer left. And all the staff were just busy in the kitchen, chatting and do another work. It's a shame because even though your food taste really good, when people from outside look into your restaurant, all they can see is dirty tables, and they simply lost their interest to try your food.Maybe you should put more attention in your dining area and make it appealing to people that walk outside, so that they are interested to come and try our tasty Indonesian food :)
Tried the soto mie. Being and Indonesian, I found the taste was so so. But I haven't tried their other foodstuff.Another minus point is that there's only a set of condiments and a box of tissue to share with all the others. I think it would be nice to have it on every table.
