If traveling through Southern Cross and you're looking for a FRESH tasting meal, Grill'd is a foolproof option. I don't eat much red meat and upon reading the ingredients in the brie chicken sliders, decided to give them a whirl. I'm over chips at the moment, so decided to pass. You order from the little trailer (looks like a food truck) and then assigned a seat if dining in. I asked the staff about the size of the sliders. He made them seem pretty small so since I was skipping chips, I went with the order of three. Added an apple cider so came out to $23. The seating area is nestled underneath the station, and feels like an indoor patio you'll quickly forget you're in a train station. Waited about 10 minutes for my food to come out but watched the cooks make everything fresh. Sliders wound up being a bit larger than I expected which was a nice surprise. Very generous pieces of chicken in each. Buns light and fluffy. The cranberry dressing was quite sweet, almost fig jam like, but rather delicious. Brie was lightly melted which was nice, and not too much of it which I hate on most sliders. Tomato seemed like it was freshly sliced for my meal. Last ingredient was the herb mayo which I couldn't really make out with the sweetness of the cranberry, but I think it helped balance it out. Overall, really impressed with both the taste and the quality. Tons of burger places around, but it's hard to find that freshness that Grill'd delivers. Even the apple cider was good, crisp, dry and refreshing and not too sweet. Certainly not fast food prices, but light years beyond fast food taste. I'll gladly spend a little extra for fresh, quality ingredients that won't make me feel ill shortly afterwards. I go through Southern Cross quite a bit so will undoubtedly be back for more. Plus, they donate a portion of proceeds to charity! Nice little noble bonus to your purchase.
So on the first floor of Southern Cross lies something that resembles a food van. And they have a garden looking floor grass) and a picket fence as well. It's kinda cute. It is Grill'd! They have lamb here if you're interested in that business one of my few regrets kinda b/c I never got to try the lamb burger in the Land Down Under! Anyways their burgers are supposedly healthier haha. I can feel the burger bun is different kinda like a ciabatta bread). You can choose between 2 types of buns by the way. I forget the other type, however, so you'll have to find out for yourself. I got the chilli addict $13.50 AUD). It has jalapenos, roasted peppers, sour cream, cheese, mesculin, Spanish onion, and chilli relish. I also got chips for $4.50 AUD as well. It says they put herb but it tasted like rosemary I hadn't tried it before). Their fries first. Bomb diggity! They are warm and they have texture but in the inside it can melt in your mouth! I also forgot to state you can get one of 5 dipping sauces/mayos for the fries as well). Totally try their fries out here! They're really really good. The burger- it was a little spicy at first but once you get it down and start, it'll get a little bit spicier hahaha. The jalapenos probably get to you. They have peppers in here as well which is healthy). Chilli relish is good :D. I was actually surprised because their burger sizes here are a pretty good size as well. And one more thing! This is inside Southern Cross, a train statio. I found out that they have other locations throughout Melbourne, in the Downtown area), so this isn't the only one that exists haha. Their meat is tender, even if it is beef. We didn't even specify if we wanted the patty to be a specific way and it still had juices in it so it wasn't dry! :D Totally recommend if you have time in Melbourne to try it out!
I love grill'd. Well priced, decent burgers. My old time favorite is the Sumer sunset : . Beef patty with pineapple, avo and salad. Its great. Grill'd also do amazing chips, and mayo chip dip. It is well priced and I always feel value for money when I get grill'd (and i get grill'd alot . I recommend to try it if you haven't, The chiken burgers are ok, but the beef patties and the vegi patties are amazing.
Oh my! These folks do burgers right! Try the lamb party. Portions are generous and the prices good. The share plate of chips will feed 3-4 nicely. The business also has a social advocacy program where patrons are given a token to put in one of three jars by the door to make a 5c donation to a local charity. The day I was there, all three supported LGBT causes.
