I stumbled upon New Kum Den on a Sunday night. The dining area is pleasant, well-lit, and clean. The staff at the front of the house were friendly. Located off Little Bourke St, it was not too crowded so finding a seat was easy. The food was delicious. The three dishes we tried - Prawns with Snow Peas, Salt Pepper Pork Ribs, and Duck fried rice - were all excellent. The overall impression was that the food was fresh, well-prepared, and flavorful. The Duck fried rice, in particular, stood out with plenty of shredded duck meat and a spicy XO Sauce. I highly recommend this restaurant, although they unfortunately do not offer Hong Kong style Roast Pork.
Tucked away on a street just off Chinatown's Little Bourke St, you'll find this authentic Chinese restaurant that dishes up classic favorites using high quality ingredients. We chose this spot for a birthday dinner with a group of 11 and indulged in mud crabs with ginger and garlic alongside saucy egg noodles. The eggplant with minced meat, beef with black bean sauce, crispy duck, and seasonal vegetables were all excellent and cooked to perfection. As a pleasant surprise, the restaurant also treated us to complimentary black sesame soup with 'tang yuan' for dessert. The service was outstanding, and we would definitely return with a larger group in the future.
Always enjoy heading out with friends for some casual and authentic Cantonese. Wait staff are super friendly and always have a smile. The food is a good honest representation and never disappoints. Highly recommend their versions of Peking Duck and Xiao Long Bao fantastic!
One of my local fav, spacious and big portions with great flavours. It’s a hidden gem given it’s in a side street. Definitely worth the visit.
