Railway Hotel - Melbourne

Nice pub to come and relax and have a meal and drinks with friends, the service was great and you did not have to wait long for anything. I recommend coming here for a drink or food.

I have been to this restaurant/pub a handful of times, mainly out of convenience because it is close to the Sun Theatre. I would come in alone or with family and friends to grab a quick bite before or after a movie. The food has never been what one would call spectacular and the service has always been lacking. Today when I visited the restaurant I was interested in ordering some food to take home with me. Katie, (she didn’t have a name tag but that is what she said her name was) the waitress/cashier told me that they were not supposed to allow take away orders but that she would do it for me so long as I didn’t tell anyone or let the managers see. Shortly thereafter Toby, (she said her name was but didn’t have a name tag either) another waitress/cashier delivered garlic bread to my table. I assumed it was a mistake or perhaps they thought that I wanted a little snack while I was waiting for my main dish. Then came out my main dish and side on two plates. Immediately I let Toby know that Katie had told me I could take the food for take-away. Toby then told me that I could but after I had eaten…This is just ridiculous. I only ordered the food because I was promised that I could have it in takeaway containers. When I asked for a refund for the main and side dish the ladies became aggravated. They finally decided amongst the two of them to give me two plastic containers to box my food up myself. They told me that I needed to be discreet with the containers and not let other patrons or managers see me leaving with the food in a container. When I went over to ask their names they were pointing at me while whispering and laughing. Talk about ZERO respect for customers. I would have never ordered the food or gone through the hassle if I had known that they were going to give me a hard time about getting the food to go. Never the less I had the food boxed up and upon arriving home it was not any good so I gave it to my dog; my dog wouldn’t even eat it. So, there you have it folks. I really hope that the neighborhood gets some more quality restaurants that treat their patrons with at least a shred of decency and respect.

Great meal had by all four people. not your usual pub grub. Nice setting sit front hotel or in restaurant, both nice. You wont be disappointed.

Came here to watch the All Blacks play Great Britain and Ireland. Nice cozy spot, full of patrons and their young families. It was a great place to watch the game and get a bit of pub food. We will return.

The food here is good value for money. It's nothing fancy, but good food. The bar is a great area to have a bite, a beer and watch the footy.
