We visited again for dinner on Saturday night.Sensational food, very inventive and tasty, friendly staff and good for vegans and vegos..
I happened to be walking down Clarendon street when I saw a sign for Shakahari and noticed it was a vegetarian restaurant.
I went to Shakahari with 2 friends for dinner at 6pm on a Thursday night. Thursday turned out to be a great night to go actually because Shakahari is just around the corner from Lygon Street and many of the shops there were open late so we were able to wander around in between work and dinner. The restaurant itself is pleasant, not flash but nicely decorated and tidy. We decided to share our meals so that we could try a few different dishes. we ended up ordering:Entree:- Gnocchi Amaranth- Avocado magic- Salad ShakahariMains:- Legendary satay Shakahari- Nonya Curry- Couscous MedinaDessert:- Maquiberry and Pandan Tart- Ichinen Sago FudgeFirstly, this was way too much food for 3 people! Next time we go we'll only have 2 entrees, 2 mains and 2 desserts. The dishes that were a hit were the avocado magic, the satay shakahari and the nonya curry. The Couscous medina, salad shakahari and gnocchi were all good but could have done with a little extra something. The desserts were the let down unfortunately. The Sago fudge was flavourful but very dry. It did have a sauce underneath but it needed something extra. The tarte was totally bland, it needed some kind of sauce to save it.If we had only ordered 2 entrees, 2 mains and 2 desserts we would have each eaten for under $40, $45 including drinks and that would have been filling. Shakahari is excellent value for money as the serving sizes are decent. I will definitely be going back to Shakahari to try out some more meals in the future.
Interesting vego place, from the name I expected maiming Indian food but it was a nice surprise to find a very mixed menu. I have papaya salad which was crisp and fresh followed by a Malaysian chickpea curry, simple fresh food. Very nice and polite service.
