Feedback gevenI’ll give one start because is the minimum. The owner was so rude to my partner and I while we were waiting for our food. He approached us asking us to pay for the BYO that we were drinking in such a disrespectful way that we thought he was kidding. Of course we asked him why do we have to pay for our BYO we weren’t aware of any fees) and he got worse and started to confronting us in the spot. I still can believe how rude he was to us after beings a regular costumer. I ended up asking for my money and leaving the place. The food isn’t the whole of a restaurant.. it need a good service. Hence, that why it is called hospitality. Updated: keep reading other reviews and you will understand what I meant. Apparently the owner had the habit to do this
We ordered the sushi combination, a katsudon and a yakisoba. There are not many good things to say about any of it to be honest. The sashimi, while large, is cut with very little care thin and thick, hacked apart. The sushi rice was unseasoned, and not koshihikari. As a result (I guess), the rice was overcooked and formed a paste in your mouth that was very unpleasant. The yakisoba had no caramelisation on the noodles, the sauce tasted weird, the pork had no colour and tasted like it had been broiled rather than grilled. No kewpie mayo served with it. The katsudon was probably the worst dish the meat was grey. The sauce mixed in with the egg was so salty it was difficult to eat. Completely unbalanced, and cannot have been tasted by whoever made it. I feel terrible writing this, because I realise it's a okaasan ojisan type place, and I am not expecting fine dining, but I cannot understand how anyone could eat that sushi rice and think it was ok to serve. Check out Popula Sushi if you want a nicer vibe, and very good sushi, made by Japanese.
Solid, limited seating restaurant in Rathdowne St currently doing a brisk trade both sit down and takeaway. Quality ingredients handled by the owner and his family producing family style hot dishes from a tiny kitchen. Sushi and sashimi are also very good with everything fairly priced. It's popularity puts a lot of pressure on the kitchen during peak periods which can result in a bit of a wait. A nice option.
I visited this busy little sushi house yesterday. After queuing for 5 minutes I placed my order and searched for a table. Not many were available. I ordered the mini sushi which was only $9. While called mini it was very filling. It had 8 pieces of sushi in a variety of forms and sizes and some salmon teriyaki and a fried goodie. Tea was provided on the tables. There are also hot dishes priced at $9 for the daily special to $13 for the bento box. This was such an awesome, economical lunch I can see why people queue!
Should be more of this .... Excellent Genuine Japanese food; make sure you'll get in before the rush hour, there's a downtown Tokyo feel about it; fast pace and consistent. Always amazed me to see a family business that is running well, great job guys ... Arigato Gozaimasu for enriching our Melbourne culinary feast.
