I have been here many times with Thai friends. It's their restaurant of choice. That says everything. It's the most authentic Thai I have eaten in Melbourne by far. They even have a selection of Isaan dishes too. Most Thai restaurants have sweetened their dishes to cater for Aussie palates. Which is understandable. But they have stuck closest to their roots. Still not 100% what you would get in Thailand but it's not far off. Highly recommend.
Great tasting Thai food. Probably one of the best. Only thing that lets it down is the meat. It's always quite dry and tough, especially beef.
I have visited numerous Thai eateries in Melbourne and the surrounding suburbs and for authentic Thai food Tomtoon is hard to beat. There is a high ration of Thai to Western customers and the place is never empty which is a great lead. Never had a disappointing dish and prices are excellent. I can highly recommend the papaya salad and grilled pork. If you love authentic Thai food then give it a try. Its easy to get to also being less than a five minute walk from North Richmond train station.
Will eat here again, as I was surprised how good the Pad Thai that I ordered was. Also, the Papaya Salad, which I am really fussy about, was also up to my lofty expectations.Judging on the quality of these 2 dishes, I'd assume and expect that most other dishes would be of the same high standard. My friends, 2 of which were Thais, were also satisfied with the quality of tasteWill be going back to eat there again. Good value
