I had a fantastic Sunday dinner at this restaurant! Couldn't find any faults at all. The staff were amazing and I loved that they had a dog-friendly area. I highly recommend this place. Oh, and the fruit scones were absolutely delicious!
The place is excellent, the staff are excellent and the food was excellent. Not much else to say, really we come here a lot and stay in the lodges and for me the customer service is superb .
Met my friend who I hadn’t seen for a while here for coffee/tea and cakes. A few years back, this was the local place to go for an afternoon tea, but after returning, I can’t say I’m bothered if I go back. The waitress who took our order was surly and looked inconvenienced, though the restaurant was practically empty. She also commented to the person in front of me who was ordering a takeaway coffee and cake that the ‘cakes have been out all day’. I understand that they can only sell what people buy, but being told at half past three in the afternoon that your cake has been kicking about since the morning is hardly a selling point! When our orders arrived, my Rocky Road (priced at £3.60) looked as though it had been chipped off a cliff face. Yes, it was value for money, as cake portions in lots of cafés tend to be small for their price, but this looked completely unappetising before I took the first bite. One of my friends told me that Hambleton Bakery provide the cakes here and considering their local reputation, my Rocky Road was one of the worst cakes I’ve ever eaten. It was full of glacé cherries, usually the reserve of dodgy Seventies desserts and chocolate that was far too rich. I would say that the cake selection is poor for an upmarket tea room and the selection of drinks is equally limited; my friend asked if they were serving winter flavours (gingerbread, spiced pumpkin) for her latté and the same waitress cut her short and said that they don’t do them. The surroundings are pleasant and the décor is in-keeping, but it could do with minor updates here and there. Oh, and please try and do something about the flies! For about three quarters of our visit, we were swatting them away from our drinks.
First time at Eye Kettleby Lakes it was highly recommended and didn't disappoint. Such great service and breakfast was amazing. Certainly be visiting again.
