From the moment I picked up the menu until I called to place my order, picked it up, and even when I went back the next day to tell them how much I enjoyed the food, everyone was friendly and welcoming. We ordered the sweet and sour slum, Mongolian lamb, and a large fried rice. The food was delicious, fresh, and flavorful, with enough leftovers for lunch the next day. I didn't experience any of the MSG-induced dreams that I usually get after eating Chinese food, so either they don't use it or use very little.
I disagree with the review about the chicken dish. I believe the reviewer may be referring to chicken legs, which some may find a bit tough, but in my experience, this restaurant uses very high-quality meats. The chicken (including the upper legs), pork, and beef were delicious. The staff was also very accommodating with our family's food allergies, which include severe seafood and gluten allergies. They were able to guide us towards suitable options (which were plentiful, except for the egg rolls and dishes that contained broken pieces).
The laksa at Happy Inn is amazing (I always order the pork meat) and I also enjoy the steamed dim sum. It is a regular spot for us, sometimes weekly. There is nothing on the menu that I don't like. The only downside is that they don't accept EFTPOS, but there is an ATM just two doors down at the IGA. This place is a hidden gem in Merewether.
The happiest people working in happy inn and eating is always good, cheap and delivery is fast.
Fabulous coffee served quickly with a smile. Great food and a gentle, comfortable, calm place to think, meet friends and have a conversation.
