Chef Florabel's foray into the hospital cafeteria scene has spawned another one in Asian Hospital in Alabang which i have also tried recently. I'm not sure if they have other hospital branches. For what they offer, prices are on the upscale side. What most people do not know (except for hospital staff) is that the SLM Global has another canteen on the 8th or 7th floor which serve turo turo style home cooked meals at a fraction of what Market on the 5th offers. Going back, we ordered salad to go, as expected my Mom's potato beet salad is still the one to beat. Their version had big chucks of potato (so big you can count how many) and lightly dressed. They also offer other grocery snacks and items. Senior discounts honored.
This is an affordable place in the heart of st lukes hospital and in the busy and booming place of BGC! Our favorite is their BBQ meal and this lechon macau! For 190 pesos its extremely satisfying! So ill rate it 4 on food taste!
It was a few minutes before 7 PM when I decided to check out the canteen food. I didn't know what to expect, but definitely, it wasn't a bland watery porridge with overcooked hard boiled egg that the yolk had turned grayish or was it blackish? Or that the bits of innards I found in my porridge had some foul odor. Or the shark dumplings' wrapping had turned rubbery, and the wrappers' edges had become crusty hard. The sorry looking dumplings looked like they had been on display since the shop opened. The snarky thought " if I get stomach problem, I wouldn't have to worry since I'm already in the hospital" crossed my mind while gingerly spooning what I can salvage from my order which was just 2 spoonfuls.
I was hungry as usual and spotted a canteen type of set-up here for a quick meal. I heard it is ran by the group of Chef Florabel and they also have a branch in Asian Hospital. It caught me by surprise though when I got the bill of Php 485 for a few items. The re-heated and got very dry, small portion red rice for Php 60 and a really bland and greasy Chicken Casserole, a mere thigh part for Php 220. Two items were acceptable on price points, fruit cup at Php 125 and the Fresh Lumpiang Sariwa at Php 100. It's vegetables were without seasoning, good thing peanut sauce was decent good. I suggest you skip this spot and move on to the other choices inside. There's ever reliable Mary Grace in its front for example. alwayshungry.ph
Food 5/5 Portion 5/5 Service 3.5/5 Ambience 2/5 Parking 5/5 Value for money 2/5 Overall dining experience 3.5/5 Food and portion are never a question. Market has always served the freshest and yummiest dishes eversince. However, being a self-service sort of "canteen", I think it is a little bit expensive. Their ever varying menu is wide and vast - which I love the most, apart from the portions of their food.
