This place was an unexpectedly great place to eat delicious cost effective eating and explore some of the history of mexicali in the museum.
A locals hang-out for early to mid-morning menudo. Also available are beef and corn tamales, beans, toasted buttered bread, and quesadillas. Very good food at reasonable prices. Atmosphere is almost barnyard rugged, with bench-style seating. Service is good. Choice of 3 sizes of menudo...in white or red. You may not be able to finish the large, but take-home is available for heating up later for supper.
It's a very simple place with a very simple menu. Red and white menudo, quesadillas, bean, tamales and they have toasted virote bread). A Lille difficult to find but if you have GPS you should be fine. The small street it's on it's not...paved . I highly recommend you are there before 10 am or else it's very busy and you'll wait to be seated. I would dress very casual and expect your shoes to get dusty, but you'll enjoy a different type of atmosphere. It's worth trying
I've lives in Mexicali for 14 years and i found out about this place like 2 years ago, since then we have visited several times!!!! Menudo is the especiality but you OUGHT TO try corn tamales and quesadillas!!! made with cheese from Sonora/Chihuahua. PLUS you...can visit a mini Old-West town :
