This was the case tonight .... sadly. : This place is allegedly known for its Karoke and Mediterranean tavern cuisine yeah right,... I know,... WTF right ? let 's take a closer look upon arrival this evening two dudes that looked like they might be just loitering selling meth were smoking while grinning from ear to ear as we approach the restaurant they stood oddly to the side of the entrance,.. sort of lurking by the front door but seemed welcoming enough as they smiled and invited us into the restaurant through the door of the restaurant that happened to be proped open which inadvertently created the perfect vacuum like suction enough to pull all of the smoke from their cigarettes into the dining area inside. This was my first flashing warning sign though throughout the continuation of similar warning signs, the friendly nature of the man who appeared to be the owner and the staff mixed with the 3 4 staff groupies were all just so fucking nice that I though that maybe,.. just maybe the smoke, the wretched decor, the harsh lighting,.. the loud DJ blasting awful random song along tunes and the very strange, misguided hodge poge menu filled with Mediterranean look alikes just might be an awesome counterbalance to these otherwise blatant signs of caution. Hmmm ... feeling like a total dumbass as I write this Btw once at the register looking over the menu and placing an order, engaging is some playful banter with the two female hosts behind the counter, we ordered several different vegan vegetarian.appetizers... the ladies were talkative and confident that we would love the food and made a few recommendations not knowing our familiarity with the cuisine, they willingly explained some of the dishes and cooking techniques and overall impresario. As she confirmed the order with me,... I noticed that some of the items I had ordered thinking as they normally are sides and smaller appetizers were priced very high. We 're talking about hummus and baba both of which on this menu i noticed were priced around 7 8 dollars each I politely asked about the portions thinking that if a plate of baba was 8 dollars that It might be really abnormally big portion and explained that we didn 't want to over order. She said no,. That the portions weren 't too big and pointed to a melamine plate about 6 in dia. This is a very small plate and I could hardly imagine 7 8 dollars worth of hummus or baba fitting on this small dish. Warning sign #9 or 10!!! I went ahead and stuck with the order trusting that despite the insane price that the sizes were reasonable and that the food could possibly be really good. The totaled up the bill and the 5 apps, I beer and 2 vegetarian burgers along with a 15% gratuity was 83.00+ !!!!! Insane right ? After about 12 minutes I realized that the whole order was probably being considered as one course and in the interest of getting some food fast,. I mentioned to the lady at the counter that the kitchen didn 't need to send it all at once and of the hummus could be scooped onto a plate or all of the apps could actually be sent before the burgers. She immediately whisked away to the kitchen and returned 2 min later with two tiny side plates as promised of baba and hummus and another oval dish of hardly warm pita Bread cut into triangles covered with a dry spice mix that looked like sumac but not sure. The baba and hummus were average as best but passable. The spinach pies were like little Turkish mantee shapes little triangles made from something resembling pat brisee but without the flakyness... cold,.. lacking seasoning,.. terrible.muddy old spinach flavor,.: just bad. The eggplant fries were seasoned well but totally greasy with a breading that was also saturated with the flavor of old fryer oil. Two ramekins of ketchup flanked this fryer abomination. I can 't say that ketchup would be the first condiment I would think to serve with battered and fried eggplant or even the 20th condiment in the long list of condiments than t would be better suited to fried eggplant. Strange, soggy, lifeless and poorly executed.
We were the only patrons in the restaurant and the waiter hung around us the whole time, including when paying our tab. It was awkward. I had the lamb gyro and it was dry and tasteless. My daughter had something off the secret menu that 's supposed to be coming soon when they rebrand as a fusion-fare restaurant. She said it wasn 't bad, but not great either.
Had dinner on Tuesday evening a little after 6pm. Upon walking in I was immediately greeted and sat. The place was empty until probably 45 minutes in during my visit. The bartender was great, he was super attentive. The owner was also there. I was looking forward to trying this place out as the menu that I saw via Yelp was extensive and full of what sounded like delicious meals. The current menu is the total opposite of that, but I did learn that the business was not selling certain items as often as they would like so they decided to cut down on waste and food cost. My guest and I decided to just order appetizers to share: falafel appetizer, stuffed kibbeh and a pick 3 that consisted of spanakopita, grape leaves and tabouli. Everything looked good. The stuffed kibbeh (4pcs was accompanied with a side of tzaziki. The falafel appetizer (4pcs was served with hummus, baba ghanouj, tomato wedges that sat on a small bed of lettuce and pita bread. The pick 3 had one piece of spanakopita (big enough to split , 2 grape leaves and a decent size of tabouli along with more pita bread. I wish I could say everything was delicious, but the falafel was almost hard as a rock and the hummus was a bit too dry for my liking (not enough olive oil? . I enjoyed the tabouli as it was delicious and tasted fresh. I have had better grape leaves from Kroger's Murray section. The baba ghanouj and stuffed kibbeh were good. I was hoping this place would exceed my expectations, but compared to other Mediterranean places that I have dined in previously, this place was just mediocre at best. At the end of the meal, I did feel rushed as the owner asked if we were done and upon our answer he immediately pulled the tablet to pay and proceeded to wait next to our table until payment. This place is highly rated and I have seen Orexi being recommended often. With that said, I am definitely open to ordering an actual entree as I may have missed something. We will see.
Friendly atmosphere. good food n drink. plus I won the karoake raffle on my 1st visit. yay!!!!!
Love this place but hate that it's closed on Monday and Tuesday. I went and they were closed
