Taru - Midtown UNLV

Pricing is great. Nigiri price is for 2 pieces while sashimi is for 6. You cannot complain on that. Freshness of the fish is 7/10. Not the best but not the worst. Bluefin tuna was fresh but the amberjack and yellowfin had no smell but had a slight fishy taste that lingered. The waiter tried to upsale the sashimi specials which was obviously designed to mask the lack of freshness. Biggest complaint is the service. On a fairly slow night with half the restaurant empty they had issues getting food out. Waited over an hour to receive my 8 pieces of nigiri. Was told 3 times that the sushi chefs were swamped and suggested I also order from the hot menu. During this time I witnessed 3 parties come in after me and had their sushi rolls prepared and served to them before me, even one party that came in roughly 30 minutes after I placed my order. Which is unacceptable.

The food is good, but a bit pricey. The sashimi were smaller than I expected for the price. They need to invest in real chopsticks, using disposable chopsticks on this expensive a meal is just wrong.

The restaurant is very comfortable with great lighting and music. David was exceptional in his recommendations and attention to detail. The cocktails were amazing. This is easily one of the best restaurants we’ve been to in our many trips to LV. It’s a hidden gem! Don’t miss it!!

Fantastic! Absolutely wonderful. From the gyoza to the wild caught mackerel everything was perfect. The sushi chef was a joy to watch, incredible precision and artfulness.
