Honaunau Poke Shop - Milolii

So many choices of poke to choose from! They also had a handful of other traditional and local sides and other dishes besides poke. Outdoor seating by the road. The service was 5 stars!!

We actually went to rent Kayaks from Islander Kayaks which runs out of the back of this poke place. The Kayak rental went great, but the surf was too rough, so they fully refunded us. We then got lunch, and it was INCREDIBLE! Best poke I've had on the big island. The service was so wonderful too. Rob, Lei Hua, and Tanya took care of us so we'll. 10/10 would highly recommend.

The sashimi was fresh. There are no restrooms here, and the purple sweet potato lemonade was more ordinary than I thought.

I have eaten here every single day for 2 straight weeks. They've even added blueberry and strawberry topped cheesecake cups that I can't resist. I highly recommend the creamy spicy for your poke plate, I've tried most of them and this one is to me the best. The people who work here are very generous and unlike a lot of local businesses they provide Kama'āina discounts. The prices are affordable and the portions are plenty. I recommend it every chance I get.

Long story short, this place was delicious and worth the impulsive stop. I told myself I would never try poke unless I actually went to Hawaii. Boy was it with the wait! Tried the spicy garlic, Hijiki quinoa and brown rice pairing. It says it's the spiciest, for reference I love heat (reapers, roasted jalapeños). I'd say this was spicy, but not incredibly. What's really fantastic is that the flavor is more showy than the spice. Savory too. As luck would have it the quinoa helped mitigate the heat and kind of cleansed the pallet for another bite. The Hijiki was springy in flavor, a very welcomed taste after a day in the sun. You'll be eating outside. So if the wind and roadside ambiance is not for you, get it to go and head to the beach. BUT! If you don't mind the passing of cars, trickling rain, shade and ol timey feel, you can at least be close to order another to go dish. Cheers Honaunau Poke Shop, you've changed my perceptions on what can be done with fish, quinoa and lovely meals done in a hurry. Loved this place and can't wait to go back. Enjoy
