Red Kwali - Milpitas

This restaurant serves halal meat, as indicated by signs and the owner's known Muslim background. Red Kwali has been a beloved establishment in the Bay Area for the past 15 years, offering authentic Malaysian, Indonesian, and Singaporean cuisine. Be sure to try the Roti as an appetizer—it's a must! I also recommend the Laksa, Chicken Satay, and Beef Rendang. They are open for lunch and dinner every day except Mondays and Tuesdays. Highly recommended!

The restaurant has a appealing ambiance with inviting decor, and the presentation of the food was quite nice. However, I was very disappointed with the taste and texture of the dishes. To begin with, the Ipoh coffee and hot chai tea tasted like they were made from instant mixes you can find in Asian grocery stores, complete with the flavor of non-dairy milk or powdered milk. The basil fried rice with chicken I ordered was mediocre; while the flavor was acceptable, the rice was overly wet—not the sticky kind, but just plain rice that had absorbed too much water. My husband’s Mee Goreng with shrimp was particularly disappointing. The spices seemed undercooked, as if they had been added right at the end of the cooking process. Moreover, the noodles were also wet and lacked proper flavor. We were the first customers for lunch, so there was no excuse for these mistakes. Considering the average price of $13 per dish, the portion sizes were also below what you typically receive at Asian restaurants in the Bay Area. Overall, we left feeling disappointed.

I wish I could give this place a negative rating. This is the worst restaurant I've ever been to. The food was not fresh and seemed like it had been frozen and thawed multiple times. The items I ordered were extremely dry and inedible. To make matters worse, the owner was incredibly rude. When I complained about the poor quality of the food, rather than apologizing for serving spoiled dishes, the owner hurled harsh insults at me. Please avoid this place to save your money and opt for other establishments that are still committed to honest business during these challenging pandemic times.

Asian food and the atmosphere here is very good. Do yourself a favor and try this place. I will be bringing friends next time. It has a great atmosphere. Food is similar to a cafe in Indianapolis I liked.

My top location for delicious asian food. Service is excellent even when they are busy. Service is consistently great. It has a nice interior. My apartment is far from here, so I can't visit often.
