Coffee shops, cafe's, whatever you call them they have become the defacto public spaces in today's Urban America a capitalist secularization of what once was actual God given public commons, so the more (and less taxing, er, expensive) the better. This downtown offshoot quite literally thrusts its public excitingly into traffic in its outdoor seating which is fine by me when writing, reading or having an eager conversation. The coffee is suitable and though my breakfast burrito was disappointingly meager it was nevertheless tasty. Chilled city water comes in adult sized serving sizes, thankfully (enough of the thimbles please for us Summer bike enthusiasts) and the people wander by in search of books or book art at enough space to feel seen (or to have seen a few). Indoors is quite vast by most standards and has the bonus of sculptures, a book store and the Book Art museuem contained within its walls as well. I am not sure about wifi or power plugs, but I assume the growing morning crowd would have moved on if those were not also available.
This place offers excellent coffee and has great seating options for both groups and individuals looking to work alone. You'll also find interesting art and gift shops, as well as some businesses located upstairs. Be sure not to miss the chance to sit on the balcony or take some photos—it's located on the third floor!
What a fantastic space! If you're looking for a great view and a wonderful place to work, be sure to check out the rooftop on the third floor. It's truly inspiring to be surrounded by books and a vibrant atmosphere filled with large organizations!
I especially enjoyed the old printing machines. The café was fantastic, and the second level had some lovely areas to sit and relax.
