Feedback gevenIt was tasty enough. A bit on the spicy side. Very oily dishes. All of them were. Not sure if that is to be expected or not. The papadam was amazingly thin and melts in your mouth not very good for dipping with the meal (usually my option as GF). The veg were all very soft/mushy. Also don’t know if that is to be expected. The $4 charge for mushrooms (protein) hardly yielded any mushrooms (skip it). There was decent amount of tofu when I added that on. $4 still felt steep. Updated from previous review on 2022 08 19
The restaurant offers a wide variety of vegan options, particularly on the dinner menu which has plenty to choose from. I personally enjoy the Dal, tofu masala, diwani handi baji, and the samosas. Delicious!
This Indian restaurant is a fantastic fast casual option. It is perfect for ordering ahead and picking up your food. I really enjoyed my meal here! (Review updated on 2021-06-19)
Curry In A Hurry is the new establishment that took over after Gandhi Mahal was destroyed in May 2020. They now offer takeout only in a different location that has seen various South Asian businesses come and go. The menu features Bangladeshi/Bengali and North Indian cuisine, with all vegan dishes clearly labeled - a rarity in Twin Cities South Asian restaurants. Our experience with the samosas ($5) was alright, although they had a slightly burnt taste and an unusual mix of corn, carrots, and potatoes that didn't quite match the traditional savory samosa flavor. The dal ($11) had a good texture and a hint of ginger that some may find too strong. Unfortunately, dishes like the aloo begun ($13), chana masala ($12), and dewani handi baji made with broccoli ($14) all had a bitter/acrid taste, with undercooked potatoes in the aloo begun. The roti ($3) was decent, and the portion sizes were generous, but the lack of proper cooking and seasoning was a letdown. For better North Indian options, consider India Palace, Darbar, or Dancing Ganesha in Minneapolis. For lighter and fresher choices, Gorkha Palace or Himalayan Restaurant, both Nepalese, come highly recommended.
The quality of the food is inconsistent. Sometimes our order is too salty, other times not salty enough. Sometimes it is overly spicy, other times not spicy at all. We have received burnt papadum and either burnt or soggy pakora. The final straw for us is that our order is often incorrect. We order the same items almost every time - three dishes and a couple of appetizers - yet our order is frequently messed up. I have called to complain each time, and they always refund our money, but that is not the issue. They need to get the order right. During our last order, one of the dishes was forgotten, the pakora was burnt, and an excessive amount of tamarind sauce was poured on top of the papadum in the bag. This shows a lack of care on their part. If they do not pay attention to something as straightforward as getting an order right, what else are they neglecting? We used to dine at this restaurant for lunch frequently before the pandemic hit. We were saddened to hear that they are struggling. We have a friendship with the owner, who is involved in many other ventures, which may be impacting the quality of the restaurant. Nevertheless, we are now searching for a new place to support with our business.
