Until they Improve this place - I would avoid it. I love diners and diner food and the people at Ben's were very nice. However, Ben's should improve its entire approach or just close. I understand theres some history with the place, but apart from some knick knacks and photos on shelves - its mostly just a dingy, not very clean front room. Lets start with the food. It only offers burgers/dogs/fries. At 5$ a burger you might think you're getting a little more "craft" in your food. Nope. Its those frozen premade barely there burger patties. Soda in glass with ice? Nope in a can out of the fridge - no glass, no ice - no vanilla cokes/cherry cokes or ice cream floats. No condiments on table. Or napkins. The burger is served to you when the waitress brings it to your seat - in her hands with one piece of paper. No plate. No plastic forks or knives. No ice cream/milkshakes/pie any of the other items you might expect to find in the classic diner. not even the sad little cup of coleslaw you often get. So to summarize - dingy room, overpriced, poor quality food, no accompanying plates/napkins/utensils - people are nice, but that doesnt make up for the rest. Heres hoping they can take some steps to turn this into the nicer diner it certainly could be.
Omg love Ben's Grew up on Ben'sBrought my kids here today to experience itIt was a success New Ben's fans.
Stopped in today for a double cheese burger and large fries. I had never had the fries here....good God they were huge! They were also very good krinkle cut fries. A huge flock of seagulls enjoyed about 2/3 of them as I was stuffed.Love the tradional little hamburger bun and the fried patties with the fried onions. Very good. A nice change from the chain burger joints. Definitely check it out if you are in Chatham.
Burgers, hot dogs and Fries. Burgers cooked on a grill that is probably 50 years old and buns steamed in a copper steamer. Never miss a chance of going there when in the Miramichi.
