Especially if Anna or Anya is working, as they spend a lot of time on their phone behind the bar. They may even take away your empty glass without checking if you want another drink. The other staff members, on the other hand, are fantastic.
A bit cramped in the seating area, but isn't this common for British Pub's? But the service and food was great and better than most. Not far from the city center so it was walking distance to our hotel.
The atmosphere was pretty dead. I took my two kids here for brunch. We are British Expats so were excited about the whole pub feel and british style brekky. We dined on a Sunday in August. The waitress was nice enough and changed the channel to the footie as per my sons request. The kids ordered apple juice and we had to wait a while as she had to get some out the back as it had run out. It tasted awful. It tasted off or of beer. We ordered breakfast and waited over half an hour until I asked what was taking so long. The fact that there was only 3 other people in there and no one eating made me wonder wth was happening in the kitchen. Our breakfast finally came out and I was so hungry at this point. The butter on the toast was sour. The toast itself was burnt to a crisp. I asked to butterfly the sausages and they came out chopped up, the beans were not english heinz beans as i had hoped but the regular savoury tasting Canadian ones, the 'home fries' were crispy (as if left to cool and refried) and salty and the worst part my eggs which were over medium were black underneath. I could actually taste burnt. The waitress apologized and said she will personally fry me some new ones. So a disappointing experience. I wont be going back.
This place seems unsure as to whether it wants to be your local or a sit down restaurant and therefore misses both marks. It has good beer and some decent food. The nachos and wraps were fine but the steak and mushroom pudding was an unpalatable mass of leathery beef and watery gravy. With a patio and an expansive interior, it is almost too spacious for a good pub and the atmosphere is nondescript unless you come with your own group. Service can be characterized as impersonal-attentive but the waitress did her job very well. Prices were reasonable.
Been here twice for lunch now and never been all that impressed. I give points for having a few beers not found in a lot of other places. They make an excellent plate of Fish n' Chips as well. Service is about as bare minimum as you get for a sit down restaurant. Most recently I ordered the Chicken Club which looks great but the chicken is fired instead of grilled, and as the obvious pan oil crust to it, which is a shame cause otherwise it would have been great (fresh lettuce and tomato, generous bacon). Service is also a bit so so dont go if you are in a rush, and if you did, I'd recommend the Fish n' Chips
