We had a reservation for 4 on a Saturday night, but when we arrived, our table was already occupied by other guests. It took multiple attempts to get a wine list and water, and the waitress seemed flustered. There were mix-ups with our order, including receiving dishes we did not ask for. Our main course took an hour to arrive, and we were offered free desserts as an apology for the wait. When we finally decided to pay and leave, there were issues with the bill. Overall, a disappointing dining experience.
We called speculators who get a table for Sunday dinner. we went through the recipe and the bar that both leave and into the great restaurant with table masses and about six diners. At some point it was possible to find someone we're talking to and. if we could have a table for lunch. she seemed very uninterested and uncertain what was going on, but finally said they were fully booked. I hope everyone showed up to fill the many empty tables, especially how we were turned away! I wouldn't come back.
I would have to agree with many other reviews and agree that eating is excellent. I am sad to say, however, that after the whole impression we will not return to the future in the unmidiate. I've never given a bad rating and I've never been. I have to say that eating is nice and I can't complain a little bit about it. well made cook. well-made owners. but if you witness the information is that the manager who has to be close to 60 years, in a relationship to a young girl in the school who works for him. maybe sixteen years old most I find these very unprofessional and somewhat disturbing. we were looking forward to the visit after we missed the place for many years and felt extremely unpleasant. do not spoil what might be a good thing with bad morals and behaviors that will cause their natives to be unpleasant when they eat at this great place. we do not want to put something negative on what is a nice place. it made my man very upset in the last week. an evening outside and eating fabulous eating should not leave this impression on his visitors. poor taste
We visited our daughter in butgavenny last Sunday and took her and our three granchildren to lunch it was something very special. excellent eating the beef and pork was exceptional. the children had roasted chicken and all ate very large portions. fresh veg and...proper yorkshire puddings was the icing on the cake beautiful view over the river and the valley from the dining room when we are next to in butgavenny, this restaurant will first be on the list
My wife and I were intent on returning to this restaurant where we had enjoyed a wonderful evening meal to celebrate our engagement back in 2016. We had heard that it was under new ownership and wanted to discover if the ambience and quality had...changed significantly as a result. We were pleasantly surprised. There are little or no alterations to the restaurant; the general layout has remained as it was in 2016. Through the small unmanned reception area you enter the lounge, with the bar ahead of you and a space filled with comfortable seating. You can usallly head straight into the dining area or, if you prefer, enjoy drinks in tbe relaxed atmosphere of the lounge. The real plus point at this venue is the unique design and position of the restaurant. The large propeller fans that dominate the ceiling area evokes whimsical associations- Humphrey Bogart next to his piano man in Casablanca for example. Then, there's the smashing view over the river Usk through the large windows that dominate one side of the room. The tables are well spaced out and the overall ambience is of a space more often found in a 5 star hotel. We chose the early bird menu (5-7 pm). This provides exceptional value, so if you can go earlier so much the better. We weren't hurried into ordering, which is always good.We opted for the three courses on offer, starting with the tasty soup of the day which was delivered quickly by a young lady with a delightful smile. In fact, all service was given with a pleasing comittment to positive customer engagement. The early bird menu gave 7 choices of mains with a reasonable degree of difference. Lizzie and I opted for the salmon and cod fish pie which was accompanied by gorgeous creamed leeks and herb salad. The presentation was good and the wait between courses timed just right. We felt rather full after the mains and asked for a slight delay before the desserts were served. This request was met with courtesy; genuine friendliness always augments the dining out experience. For pudding I had the pear frangipan tart and Lizzie the ice cream....there were 3 other choices. When one considers the modest outlay for the three courses, the quality and presentation were remarkable. Overall, a lovely and memorable dining experience.
