We chose the 4 course dinner menu for two for $75 each but the sharing portions were really small for which the high price is not justified. They didnt provide us options to choose from which resulted in digestive problems later on. I suggest using their a la carte menu instead as you can actually choose what to eat for the price you pay.
Definitely some unique options on the menu and apparently they change up the menu pretty regularly which is nice. They had beef tongue tacos (meat was good but not much other topping or flavour), carrot tacos that were quite nice, and the corn appetizer was pretty good. The swordfish and the beef were certainly tough and wouldn’t recommend those. The chicken thigh/chorizo taco was perhaps the best for tenderness, flavour, and spice. The staff was very nice and friendly which made for a much more enjoyable experience. We had Sebastian who was great. The restaurant overall is pretty cool with a nice line up on the bar and had an exposed brick type of vibe.
Possibly the best and most authentic Mexican food I have ever had. We had the 6 course tasting menu and it did not disappoint. Each dish offered diverse flavours and beautiful plating, you can truly see the detail that goes into each and every dish and the superb quality of all the ingredients. The Tostada de Camarones were to die for and the house made churros were the best I’ve ever had. Patiently waiting for them to open up in Montréal because I know it will become a go to!!!!
Went to El Santo Perdido with a larger group. The manager essentially forced us into getting the 4 course plated menu. Although, I was expecting a meal that incorporated cheese that stays liquid at room temperature like most authentic Mexican restaurants I managed to find a slight satisfaction on my palate from the food. However, I feel for the level of service and quantity of food I received it was not in line with what one would call fair value. Some nice fresh queso on the menu may attract me back.
This restaurant has a cute name in Spanish. It also has some very basic tacos and a few more of the most basic Mexican street fast food you can expect. None of the food was bad but not better than what you can get from cooking this most basic tacos at home. Staff is cordial but do not, I repeat do not come here if you have young children. There is no menu for children, no possibility to customise anything for the little ones, and even with a group of 13 they didn’t allow us to bring a quick bite from outside for two of the little kids even after we had ordered their food for them that they hated. It is not like they were going to loose any money. Still they obliged us to leave or get rid of the food. I wouldn’t choose any other way between the kids or that manager. Also, even if we forget about proper Mexican food, they didn’t even know what a sangrita is to accompany the tequila. A restaurant that calls itself Mexican but doesn’t know what sangrita is and doesn’t sell more than very basic street Mexican fast food doesn’t deserve to call itself Mexican, no matter how much ‘haut cuisine ’ and highly they think of themselves. Don’t bother, go to the pub across, you and your kids will have a better evening. UPDATE: I posted this review in Google, the restaurant replied in the most impolite manner and then the review disappeared. They claimed me to be culturally insensitive and then that morphed into calling me racist what else can you expect from a restaurant that responds aggressively to any poor review. I assume they allude to me calling tacos basic street food. Other than that I have not uttered a single insult to anyone among the staff. Once I was told that I could not feed my son and his cousin, I decided to leave and told the manager that I would not pay. Any manager worth their honour, would have obliged to that and apologized on top. Nonetheless I paid. Meanwhile the manager told me that it is my problems if my child and his cousin are too picky eaters. Clearly this gentleman does not have any experience with average children. What right has this managed anyway to tell me anything about my children. I am not Mexican but I have been taken by my Mexican friends to plenty authentic Mexican restaurants and I can only imagine my friends reaction to the manager having to be explained what a sangrita is, I didn't even bother to complain when the tequila I ordered came in a whisky glass with a lime on the rim. I do not plan to return to this restaurant The group just finished their food and left but they didn't hear the insulting comments about our children that the manager made while I was paying. I don't know the chef and if he is trained in Mexican cuisine but the manager I am pretty sure is out of his depth. Lastly, you might start serving tequila in champagne glasses for all your cultural sensitivity.
