I absolutely love this place! I spent most of my college years working here, and I truly believe they have some of the best bagels in the state. The shop is always clean, and everything is made fresh almost daily because they sell out so quickly. No matter the size of the line, they handle it effortlessly. After moving to Arizona, where the bagels are subpar, I just received my annual delivery from this place, and it was a must-have!
I have a deep personal connection to the bacon, egg, and cheese hash brown at this restaurant. Their breakfast sandwiches are simply the best in Essex County, and I've tried many of their competitors! However, the service can be a bit confusing for newcomers, and you might need to ask someone in line if they've ordered yet. If you're not familiar with the system, it can get a little chaotic, and I think it would be wise for them to consider mobile ordering. Some reviewers have criticized their handling of phone orders, which I agree is an issue that needs addressing. There was a time when I visited this place over five times a week, and the staff came to recognize my order. One of the women who used to work there would start preparing my bagel as soon as she saw me, sometimes even from the line outside—we’d just nod to confirm my order! This place is a staple for high schoolers, and during term time, expect to wait a bit during the lunch rush. On weekends, it's consistently packed. Everyone in town knows this is the go-to spot, and if I could, I would buy this business! Pro tip: make sure to add a hash brown to your BEC and thank me later!
I recently tried to order an 'MSU wrap' over the phone, but the staff had trouble understanding me. I made two calls, and both employees seemed unaware that I was trying to order a sandwich from their menu. Very frustrating! The sandwich is great, though – it's a shame about the service. A tip for the restaurant: if you're not sure how to take phone orders, perhaps you shouldn't answer the phone!
