Found this place purely by accident, when driving from the National Memorial for Peace Justice. Was lured in by the sign on the window advertising smoothies, however, they didn’t appear to have the ingredients when I inquired about the flavors available. I enjoyed my veggie patty and Reggae Medley for lunch then I returned at dinner time for the jerk chicken, Mac ‘n’ cheese for my Mom, who seemed to enjoy it. She was a bit less enthused about the potato salad as it was sweet and mustard-y. The staff was extremely pleasant. The ambiance is that of a basic diner. I urged them to set up shop nearer to the Memorial, to capture the hungry/thirsty visitors there. I hope they do!
My husband and I went there for lunch today. We arrived at 12:40.I ordered the vegetarian plate: rice and beans, stewed spinach, and cabbage. My husband ordered the curry chicken. I received my order first at 1:15!!! The young lady politely told my husband that the curry chicken was mushy and instead he could have the curry goat or the jerk chicken. Because we had already been waiting a lengthy period of time, he asked which one would be faster to prepare. She assured him that both were ready. He ordered the curry goat. 15 minutes later she brought his food at 1:30. It took almost an hour to get our completed order. Luckily, he was brought his drink with his meal. I had already finished mine, before she brought me the pitcher of water. The only reason I'll give 2 stars instead of 1 is because the food was really good. But the wait time was ridiculous.
Very friendly young lady at counter who asked if this was my first visit then explained menu options. Very clean restaurant, nice atmosphere with Bob Marley and other Reggae music videos playing on mounted TV. Food came much faster than expected, but server had to return twice with forgotten items (meat patty and ice water) . Yellow rice was more like red rice but hot, spicy, and tasty. Stewed spinach turnip green combo was fresh, hot, delicious. Stewed oxtails unfortunately were a mixture of room temperature and downright cold. If anyone had come by table to ask how my food was or if I needed something I would have let them know about the oxtails so they could have been further heated, but no one did. I even tried to waive a staff member over to me via the open kitchen, but to no avail. I would have much rather my food taken longer to be brought to my table so that the oxtails would have been heated through. I would have been content to nibble on my beef patty til the rest of my food arrived. All in all though, I will definitely be giving this cafe another chance.
A friend suggested this restaurant and I thought I give it a try. FYI they don’t sell Mac and cheese on the weekend. The only thing that saves them is their hours of operation. Island Delight is a much better restaurant to spend your money. The customer service is superb and the food is authentic and very good. The people at this restaurant have bad attitudes and they don’t even take the time to describe their menu if you have questions. The food is just much better at Island Delight with better and more options. Just go down the street and have a better experience, TRUST me. Plus, Island Delight is authentic as well so you will be upgrading, not sacrificing anything.
