While I understand that the restaurant aims for excellence, our group of three ended up spending over $400, and to warrant that kind of price, they need to offer larger portions and improved service. We arrived five minutes late for our reservation because we struggled to find suitable parking and ended up walking through the casino, which had poor signage. Despite the restaurant not being busy, we were made to wait 25 minutes for a table. Once seated, we waited an additional 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence. This was a different server who brought us water, mentioning that our actual server would come by shortly. This kind of delay is unexpected at a restaurant of this caliber. The wait for our entrees was lengthy as well. While the food was flavorful, the portions were small and not particularly memorable. The highlight of our meal was the warm apple pie served in a cast iron skillet with ice cream, but we were informed that it's not a regular item on the menu.
This is the best meal I've had in the area. The service was impeccable. The polenta was incredibly delicious, and the spaghetti demonstrated how even the simplest dishes can be elevated through high-quality ingredients.
However, when we arrived at 9:30, it was clear the hostess had gone home for the night, and we were met with no greeting from anyone, not even the unfriendly bartender. A kitchen staff member came out and rudely told us, “You should've come earlier; we’re only serving appetizers right now.” I was taken aback. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I find it quite concerning that a restaurant, especially one that isn’t open every night, would turn away customers. I might consider giving Cellaio another shot next time I’m upstate, though I can’t deny this experience left a bitter taste in my mouth. To Cellaio: please don’t mislead customers about your kitchen hours, especially when they’re traveling from far away to dine with you!
This place looks the part, but does not deliver when it comes to good food. We had to wait a half an hour for a table in an establishment that was mostly empty after 9pm. Made no sense, but we were given the last seating time and sat at the bar till they were ready. We order 2 expresso martinis and we both received some of the worst drinks weve ever had. So we understood that the bartenders were probably better at making drinks that were probably ordered more routinely, so we ordered a gin and tonic and I got a shots from there on out. Spent 20$ expresso martinis were that bad? We were waiting for so long, and no one bothered to tell us if our table was ready. We had to go an ask and they were like, oh yeah something is available. That being said the service people at the front and the servers were very polite and helpful. We ordered a salad, a chicken dish and scallops. Salad was drenched in dressing and was ok. Chicken was so dry. Scallops barely had any taste. Subpar food experience and complete was of money to go here.
We dine here a few times a year while visiting family in the Catskills. It's always a much looked forward to meal. Last night we had Rudy as our server and he was absolutely fantastic. Steaks were perfectly cooked and my wife loved her chicken dish. Great experience as always!
