At a time when restaurants have had to U turn, Dany, Jonathan and the gang are thinking outside the box or rather, inside it. We picked up baskets of food in the morning, pre measured, some of it pre cooked, and several bottles of wine, and had a hands on, restaurant quality dinner. Dany directed and patiently answered question in both French and English, and Jonathan was behind the camera. Try it! It is the perfect marriage of delicious things you (OK, I would never try at home (a reduction of Bolognese sauce, anyone? along with new skill sets and a sense of accomplishment.
Honestly, this was one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in Montreal and I’ve lived here my whole life. The service was outstanding, the decor was beautiful and the food was unique and delicious. From Montreal-made serving ware, to starting us off with a warm cloth and a felt bag to put my purse in on the floor, they really went above and beyond. The set brunch menu was excellent and included fresh breads and homemade spreads in the first serving, along with several other delicious items. Overall outstanding!
From the moment I called to advise that we would be late, to the moment the staff bid us goodbye, our interactions with the entire team at H4C was impeccable. Everyone we interacted with was knowledgeable, courteous, respectful, funny and engaging. However, the service was not the only reason our evening was such a success. The food was incredible! Our table chose to start with a tray of oysters from PEI. They were delicate, with a hint of the ocean and the accompanying sauces were inventive and delicious. We followed with the 5 course menu and were pleased with every dish. The gnudi were particularly flavourful and comforting , the tuna was marinated and seasoned to perfection. The halibut was delicate and moist (not overcooked as it 's often the case). Cheeses were delicious and we were happy to discover some gems from Quebec. Dessert was light and refreshing. The ambiance and decor are cozy. Tables are appropriately spaced so that you are not made to listen to your neighbours ' conversation. The final touch for me, was the basket which was placed next to my seat: It was designed to hold my purse and shield it from the germs located on the floor. We will definitely go back to H4C; we have rediscovered a restaurant where ambiance, service and food are all equally as important to both the staff and management.
Sunday brunch is a set for everyone. So be cautious if you have allergy or vegan. $120+ for two, a bit pricey without mimosa but only regular coffee and a juice choice. The juice is semi fresh when we got there around 1230, being kept in the jar since maybe morning before 10am. I don’t see any table could finish all the food choices. So I got a doggy bag. They replaced my half toast with a new one. I liked it very much. It tastes like donuts ? but it’s not the same. All the bakery is classy but the brownish is the best. Expecting something more on the third dish, chocolate maybe?
I have heard about Le H4C for a while and again, they were on my list of restos to try (honestly, i think eating is all I think about) Then they closed! And then they opened again and I wasn't gonna let them slip this time. We decided we'd make the brunch crowd. As they have a fix menu price for brunch, it makes it all the easier if you have a hannover: no choosing needed. The place is literally steps from St-Henri metro. Blink and you'll walk right by it. Very modern and sleek in style but still warm welcoming. The staff was nice, though seemed a little bit serious. We were thoroughly explained the menu and certain food restriction was taken into account. The food was a sharing menu. We had 2 courses, 1st being the bread and second being the proteins. There was donuts, brioche, mini pancakes, crumpets, I even got gluten free bread upon request! These were accompanied by sweet savory spreads: pâté, hazelnut chocolate, orange purée, avocado purée, cheeses and things. The second course came with an omelette, some fish balls, 2 (very small) ravioli with salad. Everything was great but I thought that the protein portion was rather small for 50$ person. Everything you see in the picture was for 4 people total It was a nice experience but they should maybe reduce the 1st course and add more to the 2nd. I think if I come back, it'd be for the dinner but I'll pass the brunch.
