Jun I - Montréal

Cozy but small restaurant, perfect when they go for a date. the place was full when I arrived, so I sat at the bar. large menu for selection. also recommend, but ask the waiter. I had the marinated scombre as an appetizer. beautiful dish well presented and delicious. then I had 2 commands of gun kan sushis (tobiko and quail ei, my favorites.) fresh maquerel nigiri. the food was perfect! I had the crêpe for dessert, it was okay, but next time I'll try something else!

All about our evening was from the exquisite care juni and his associates in their experience and meal. one of the best advice I had read before booking was to sit on the bar. as a couple I can't even imagine sitting somewhere else, whether on a first date or an established couple. for me it is the best place in the house. in juni they can observe the master himself at the work, sashimi skillfully scavenging and arrange artistically on wood panels and sheets. his two Sous kitchens work with him, and everyone welcomed us with friendly smiles. the bar is also the home of the best service, and our waiter was the best of the best. patient, friendly, informative and extremely welcoming. it helped to enjoy our evening. we ordered so much food, sushis, sashimis, roll, mistsuppe, salat and more. next time I wouldn't hesitate to order the Grandmakase experience. I can't expect to come back next time in montreal!

I had high hopes. I ordered the Omakase. I would say its on par with Park restaurant not better. I read reviews and thought it would be much better so for that reason rating is not higher. Also, one thing that bugged me was a...sushi made with rice krispies. It is 3/4 rice kripies. To me this is just filler which they should be embarassed to serve. There were some interesting pieces of fish and good quality fish as well so it wasn't all bad just did not live up to hype.

Nice selection of sake and sashimis, sushis and small dishes. The omakase experience was enjoyable. Nice overall experience.

We made a reservation one month in advance for a family celebration, Having received no confirmation, I called them a few days after (my reservation): the lady said everything is fine and even gave me the precise information of our party. We showed up Saturday...evening as planned and had the bad surprise to bump into closed doors: they are closed for renovations until December 2nd 2019! There was no notice on their website, it was shown as Open on Google while we were standing on the sidewalk at that same moment. I have received no word, no email or text ... nothing! As for our celebration, it was then too late to change for another restaurant, everywhere else is full! Jun I, please treat your clients with minimum respect! The least you can do is to inform them that your place is closed (for renovation or any other good reason) so they can make other plans. I am disappointed and will certainly not consider this restaurant again, no matter how good their reputation may seem.
