What a joke! I'm so mad at Rayan Cote des Neiges right now! I had reserved for 7 people tonight (we've been here many, many times before).
I'd heard about this resto several times and went with friends. I wasn't in the mood for meat or fish so opted for the Romanoff pasta. This is a rosa sauce with vodka, normally served on penne. The pasta was spagetti and the sauce was overwhelmingly tomato so this ended up to be a spaghetti with tomato sauce, and not a very good sauce either. I had no starter, just the one dish and the com-with salad, but based on this, I wouldn't go back. I realize I should have had the fish, which I believe they are famous for. I'm not adverse to trying the place again, but it's quite far from my home so I would need to be in the mood to travel that distance and not enjoying my meal isn't an encouraging memory. I left half the food. The Mista salad that came with the pasta was a decent chef's salad. Despite the food--and my friends mostly felt their meals were ordinary as well--the service was great. We had a terrific, friendly waitress. Unfortunately, she told us that the cake we bought for one friend's birthday couldn't be served without our group paying $2 a person to have a slice--company policy. A policy I've never run into before and I eat out a lot. We decided to give the friend the entire cake to take home. Then the waitress said the resto offers a free slice of their cake for the birthday person, so we went that route. Still, this was an annoyance. The restaurant is plain and simple, as befits a neighborhood eatery. Prices are high considering ths is not downtown. I live in Little Italy, home of many Italian restaurants. That I paid $20 for the Romanoff was high, since in my area it would be $16 or $17 and far far better than the one I had. Other dishes friends at the table consumed and their comments: Veal Marsal (a meat stew)--'OK. Shrimp in a garlic sauce--'Not what I expected. So much sauce'. Sea Bass (she's had it here many times)--'Delicious. The best thing about this resto is that it's a BYOWine place.
My husband and I came to Oregano's for the first time with another couple earlier this week. The food was excellent and fresh and the waitresses were kind and efficient. We did not make a reservation and although the restaurant was quite full we were accommodated (although we recommend making reservations). It's also a BYOW which is a plus!
My husband and I went here for dinner last Saturday and we were amazed with how professional and kind the staff was. Our waitress recommended the sea bass which was out of this world ! My husband had the grilled octopus and it was outstanding. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. We were also extremely impressed to be greeted by the chef/ owner who came to personally check on our table (as well as all the others) . I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. Amazing food and even better service!
