Losing its direction!!! Normally iconic plumsauce almost tasteless and almost none. Pineapple chicken had 3 tidbits of pineapple. Peanut Butter Dumplings soggy with water left in from steaming dumplings.
Riz frit Fried Rice is just rice fried with soy sauce , with no veges or eggs its just rice. I ordered Boeuf au sésame Sesame Beefbut got sesame chicken and for 20 dollars the portion is a joke
We ordered the peanut butter chicken and the special yetzen rice. The chicken was tasteless in both and the spinaches seemed to have sugar added to them. NASTY DOG S TO SAY THE LESS!!
While this restaurant does not necessarily feature better Szechuan cuisine, they do indeed prepare the old Yangtze recipes very well. Choose one of the set classic dinners, and you will hearken back to the old days of the restaurant on Van Horne. The won ton soup featured large meaty dumplings, and the egg rolls were just as good as the originals. The spare ribs were not quite as good, and the chicken chow mein could have used a bit more chicken, but the pineapple chicken was delicious. Though the amount of chicken compared to the breading might have been a little less generous, the fact that the coating was actually crispy (as opposed to the fairly soggy breading that used to be served at the old Yangtze) more than made up for that. We replaced the diced almond chicken with beef and broccoli (a very fair surcharge of only $1 per person), and it was quite tasty. We ordered one extra dish on top of the set dinner, which was the fried won ton. The order was huge (enough for at least 4 people), and the won ton were amazing. The two waitresses were absolutely lovely and, in the end, the bill after tax and tip came to under $30 per person. That's about the same as you would pay for lunch at one of the new fancy food halls downtown, and we were stuffed. We will return.
