We tried ordering a non alcohol drink but was told we could have soda,...that's it. The food was good and very well presented, we enjoyed the pork belly and desserts but main dishes didn't give us a wow factor.
Went to La Chronique for dinner. I highly recommend the foie gras as an entrée, it was fabulous. However, service was really slow...the main mean was good but not extraordinary...had Halibut served over beans...it was tasty but not exceptional. Very clean and well situated...the prices...were quite high with regards to the overall experience.
My brother took me here on Saturday night for my birthday. The atmosphere was nice server was great but the food.... we had a 7 course meal Cold tomato soup to start was awesome, freshly baked bread was delicious But I was waiting for the...foi grois and it came... but it was overpowered by green olives that were way too salty... than a bunch of other items came out and to tell you the truth nothing stood out as amazing other than the soup and desert. But what blew me away was the sweaty cheese they pawned off as a course.it was warm sweaty and was just ruined... so I told our server and she said they usually bring it out at opening and a wet cloth goes over it.... we were served it at 11pm ....... Felt bad my brother spent so much 450 for the two of us. It was his first time at a place like this , and being a foodie it left a bad taste in his mouth! The experience was nice, I was with a great guy... but really don’t waste your money here with so many wonderful places in the city to eat.
My wife and I return to Montreal every two or three years but somehow had missed this Mile End gem. Our Uber driver was skeptical when he dropped us off we were dressed too nicely for the neighborhood and the restaurant semed like just...another storefront. Once inside we knew we were in the right place. La Chronique may be 20 years old but you wouldn 't know it. The young wait staff was enthusiastic and the menu was very up to date. The food (fresh local vegetables, fish, and fowl and drinks (excellent wines by the class) were as good as anything we have had in Montreal and compared favorably with some of the best places in Chicago, our home town. It was a mistake for us to wait so long for our first visit. We definitely plan to go back to this unpretentious, but supremely exciting, old restaurant.
Chef Olivier de Montagny is so nice! Talented and friendly what do you want more. We went at la chronique during montteal en lumiere and were excited as chef Jean lefebvre from Cordeillan-Bages and master sommelier Pierre-Alexis Soulière were invited. But even with those famous...characters as guest, it was still the house chefs and house sommelier Jonathan Sitatras who shined during servive. The evening started with a petoncle, synonym of a perfect start. Next was a flétan with a seaweed trio which was absolutely lovely and very flavorful. The next plate was my favorite of the evening. A pintage ravioli with foie gras, truffes du périgord and parmesan emulsion. Absolutely delectable and filles with flavors. The emulsion was just divine. Next was an aged magret with beets and a porto juice. The duck was a little thick but still very well cooked. And just to end well... A fondant chocolat which we paired with a fantastic and very unique 100 years old tawny porto. Nothing less. It was overall, a special night in a special place.
