El Surtidor - Motril

We were staying in Velez de benaudalla and came across this place on the way back from the beach, there weren't many customers in the bar and we were the only ones in the restaurant. The menu was good and we were immediately given a...tapas dish with tuna which was delicious, we ordered chicken and grilled tuna both which came with chips and roast peppers, the salad we ordered was amazing, large and included avocado, asparagus, tuna, goats cheese, and acompanied by fresh bread. Lovely service from the proprietor/manager and good food!

€11 weekdays, €12 Saturdays, €16 Sundays and Festivos. Large a la carte but skip this for the menu of the day at the back of the menu. 3 courses and a drink. About 10 starters, 10 main courses, desserts in the refrigerated cabinet. All feels...homemade good hearty food, generous portions, great chargrilled meats. Staff rushed off their feet but friendly. Only do dinners on Saturday (and Friday or Sunday cant remember), otherwise lunch. Lot of Spaniards, large families at weekends. If going Sunday lunch, book. We have passed this place next to the Repsol station on the old old Granada Road many times after a a days walking or visiting Granada and have always been impressed by the number of cars, vans and lorries parked there which we take to...be a good sign. We have just got round to visiting it for lunch and it lived up to our expectations. From the outside you might expect dishes to be on the expensive side but were in fact very reasonably priced. We opted for the 10 euro menu, my wife started with a refreshing salad while I went for the fish soup which contained chunks of white fish and a plump prawn in a tasty. For mains she went for grilled sole while I tried the meatballs which were fine but but perhaps a little bland for my liking, both served with home made fries.We were both full for postres but had 2 espressos instead. The whole lot came to 20 euros including bread and a large bottle of water. While we were there it started to fill up with elderly Spanish couples out for lunch, a group, some men in suits but even more in high vis jackets and work boots. The later clientele were clearly regulars whose food appeared almost instantly while the rest of us were allowed to eat at a more relaxed pace. It says its open from 7am to 00.00 Monday to Sunday although I am not sure if food will be served all hours. The whole place is clean and well lite but still traditional Spanish in style. The waiters wear smart casual and are pleasantly relaxed but very efficient. We look forward to exploring the menu further on another visit- some of the platos combinardos looking interesting as do manu dishes on the main menu.

One of the much sort after typical true Spanish food .Cooked served in the best surroundings. We visited this establishment yet again after many visits over the years. Sunday lunch is a BUZZ !! Get there about 12.30/1.00 to beat the rush !! Good...wholesome food of LARGE portions .NOT expensive My huge plate of 'Alpuharras ' style food consisted of the largest Pork chop ever seen,black pudding sausage,chorizo sausage,potatoes,green pepper,local ham,fried egg ,Oh !! Mmmm !! (Had to have a 'doggy bag ' My wife chose the ' Bocarones, ' fried Sardines, to start ,then a delicious plate of ' Calamari Frito ' with lovely golden crispy chips ,with Russian salad ,fried egg ,served up with a Garlic Lemon mayo ',fresh crispy bread .PHEW !! BE HUNGRY !!

Excellent bar road restaurant to eat a good menu, at any time of the afternoon, being the menu abundant,casero and good. whenever I have opportunity, I go.
