Feedback gevenWe stopped here on a few occasions when the area is always great food and service
Wels and Hush puppies were very small. Well tasted, but not impressed. See the reviews and had high hopes. On a good note the salad was very good. Tomato tasted like they just came out of a garden. Sad note, had been thinking about this catfish dinner all day, was abandoned.
I love the food I tried for the first time the fried green tomatoes. The restaurant looks small, but it's actually quite big. It has a dining area, two terraces and a bar. The service was good. The only thing that needs improvement is the bathroom that smells. It is definitely worth trying.
Huckleberry's has the best highway shielding, I almost had to make a picture and ask the owner who made it very appealing. When I arrived, a table sat, and the staff gave up, I should sit myself... 10 minutes later, I almost gave up and didn't let me see the staff anymore, smell some food from the kitchen. But the persistence pays off and I soon had a bottle of IPA, roasted green tomatoes and catfish bites before me. The diving sauce for the tomatoes had a nice kick, even if it was a bit too salty and the tartaric acid sauce for the fish was quite fabulous. The bread on fish and tomatoes was easy and my order came quickly and hot once placed. The staff was really friendly and the other diners who arrived during my meal seemed local regular.
While spending a weekend at a rustic cabin near Tamms IL, my wife and I tried Huckleberry's from a recommendation on the Southern IL Eats' Facebook page. This venture was far from a disappointment. The food was yummy, prepared with care and was very well plated, the zervice was impecable, they were bit short handed but we were in no hurry. If you are passing through or hiding out in deep Southern IL for a few days, do not skip Huckleberry's , you would be missing out on a gem of a local eatery. Don't forget to tip your server. If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out.
