Ches's Fish and Chips - Mount Pearl

Good fast meal. I ordered a fish part with chips and poutins upstairs. It wasn't disappointed. The staff was nice and friendly. I ate and they even gave me a real fork. Anyway, it goes back.

Yesterday (Aug 8, 2018), we had the unpleasant experience of dining at your Highland Avenue, St. John's location. We are visiting Newfoundland for the first time and your restaurant was recommended to us by friends. When we entered the restaurant, we stood for quite some...time and had to ask if we should seat ourselves. When our waiter, Justin, finally acknowledged us (no smile or welcome), we asked if we should order at the counter. He seemed put off by our question and rudely told us that he would bring us menus. We found his general demeanour to be unwelcoming and he seemed irritated by our presence. We are friendly people and have enjoyed the interaction we have had with many Newfoundlanders across the province and were taken aback by our reception at your highly recommended establishment. We did enjoy the fish and chips but the service was terrible. We were looking forward to getting our CFA certificates but did not want them after this experience. Maybe Justin was having a bad day but he shouldn't have taken it out on us. We did tell him how we felt. Shockingly, he seemed surprised and did apologize. We did not tip him! Doubt we'll visit another Ches's Fish and Chips while we're here.

OK, you thought that it was in Britain..........well a short 70 years this destination WAS part of the British empire. So Ches's in Newfoundland has not only the historical perspective of being in a city first settled in the early 1500's and the food traditions...derived from that historical perspective but still sits on the doorstep of the rich fishing grounds of the Grand Banks. Combine that with a compulsive quest for the unbeatable gourmet preparations and VOILA the best Fish and Chips globally!

Here with a big party today. Someone was gluten-free and really wanted to fries, but they could only have rice. I am vegetarian and wanted a poutine, but the engraving is chicken engraving. Mary Browns also has vegetarian engraving. disappointment in lack of...options for nutritional restrictions.
