Came for dinner, it's a pub/restaurant but also has a family area for dining with children. We were 3 adults and a toddler, there was a kids menu which was handy. Quite a big space with indoor and outdoor seating. The food was ok, not the healthiest and the portions are huge. We ordered a few things to share. Calamari (pretty heavily battered and oily), wings (you get 6 decent sized ones, they were saucy but not the nice marinated sticky kind), steak and cheese pie (nice presentation, nice pastry, filling was more gravy than steak, sat on a tower of mash and a layer of mushy peas), ribs (eyesore presentation, stacked between bars, quite messy. Unfortunately they were dry and the sauce was the same as the wings... didn't taste the best)... also got some fries which were pretty standard. Our waiter was nice though, good service, so I give it a 3/5.
Came on a weeknight, still pack with people, we have to sit I one of the high table as the dining area are fully booked! Been here a. Few times meal are good quality and reasonable price. I would recommend here for a causal dinner or friends to share platters and few drinks! I see others order a beer platter which is rather interesting! However personally not a beer fan, I will stick with my gin and tonic...
Living in South Auckland, we don't have an extensive list of bars and restaurants compared to the inner suburbs. So when Speights Alehouse popped up by Lunn Ave, we had to try it. Having been several times now, I can definitely say I'm jealous of the locals! They have a great variety of dishes, and I especially enjoy their burgers, salads and ribs. It's great not having to drive all the way into town for a decent meal. Love the chilled out vibe, attention to detail and atmosphere here! We try to come just before lunchtime on the weekends, before it gets busy and we can pick whichever table we like- I love sitting in their outdoor area on a hot day. Great for couples, families or groups for any occasion- there is something for everyone here.
We came here for lunch on a rainy Saturday and spent the afternoon snug under one of their outdoor heaters in the covered outdoor area. The food was delicious, although a bit expensive. Would recommend the Hayman's steak and the smoked chicken salad (this was not a boring run of the mill salad the best one I have had in a while). The thick cut chips are also a winner! The wine and beer list is extensive so there is lots to choose from. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The decor is interesting with several cool seating options and cosy dim lighting. Overall, this pub is a great addition to the Stonefields area.
