This is our local cafe, so friendly and helpful... gorgeous coffee and Torada. Lovely . Prices are amazing, coffee about 70cents, toast a whole Euro!!! Great value for money in a typically Portuguese cafe... more locals than tourists! Say no more!!!
We had time to kill on the way to Faro Airport so entered Bordeira in the sat nav as a random place on the map. We then stumbled on this wonderful unpretentious rural restaurant with a delightful shaded outside area. Decided to have lunch and enjoyed delicious grilled sardines accompanied by a lovely Mediterranean salad. The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke good English. Couldn't believe how small the bill was excellent value. Will certainly seek this place out if visiting the Algarve area again.
This place may be seen by some as a bit rough and ready, but it is what it is, and true to its roots. Which is simple, local, basic food, well priced and freshly prepared. We came for lunch as a family of four, to be offered two main dishes either Pork or Fish. The kids bailed and went for salad, we went for Fish. Couvert was olives, bread and cheese, all excellent. The salad did what it said on the tin lettuce leaves with a few onions on one plate, and tomatoes with dried oregano on another. But what great lettuce (can lettuce be great? Yes it turns out it can! and tomatoes they were. The fish of the day was Seabass, which came with potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. All in all a very typical local meal, pitched at the local market not tourists, but if you want to see how the real Portugal eats come here. Be prepared (particularly if you bring kids to get something pretty basic, but also be prepared for great value for money. Our lunch, with two beers, soft drinks and all the food was 15 Euro. Wow!
Pinto looks like many a roadside bar restaurant from the outside. The yellow awning , the location on a back road between nowhere and nowhere, blink and you would miss it. Fortunately we were staying about 20 mins walk away. We ate here twice and both times were a complete joy! The menu is quite simple – a variety of char grilled meat or fish accompanied by a delicious tomato salad and new potatoes. We had fish every time as it seemed did the rest of the place – it was well frequented by locals of all ages on each occasion. Either order single fish – whole bream , sea bass, salmon piece; or the Brazilian style fish which is smaller fish – sardines, mackerel – but is all you can eat. They just kept bringing tray after tray of freshly grilled fish and toured the tables off loading it! I stopped at about 10 fish and twice they tried to make me take more. The wine beer coffee were all excellent value. The best highlight of all was the service from Patricia who went out of her way to ensure we understood the menu, remembered our preferences on our second visit and made the meals a real experience. All in all the best meals we had in the area. Thank you.
