Seemed to be the go to for many locals in that 40 to 60 range. Portions are LARGE with no excuse service and classic German beer - staff in traditional Bavarian garb. English menus available upon request
We found this wonderful, authentic place on the last night before they shut the restaurant in its present location with the intention of re-opening in a few months somewhere else in Munich. Although the menu was obviously limited as a result, the friendly staff found plenty for us to eat and try and we wished that we had found it sooner. The food was hearty and traditional but alas we were too late for their own beer, although there was some perfectly acceptable beer on hand. The owners could not have been more friendly or helpful and they were all quite emotional about leaving the place after many years. OK so now I need to know where they have moved to, so hope that they will put something on the web to alert people who want to find them again. Does anyone know?
Three of us went here one afternoon for an Excellent meal...Deer, wild mushroom gravy & potato cakes...and enjoyed it so much we returned two nights later with a dozen friends for another great meal. Everyone was pleased with the Very traditional German food, the service and the prices. On both occasions I noted that most of the folks were locals...will be in Munich again in December, see you there.
Excellent Bavarian fare, late night service, and a pleaseant stroll to our hotel, Munchen Palace Hotel. The al fresco dining option proved to be just the ticket. The Nuremberg brats and Weiner Schnitzel hit the spot and the schnapps and wine cut the light chill in the air.
Our first visit to the Biergarten, we normally visit the Bierkellar in the evenings. What a difference. The spacious Biergarten is in a tree-lined courtyard just above the brewing hall. There is plenty of shade on a bright summers day, and the flowers are gorgeous. What about the beer? Straight from the wooden cask, cold and very sessionable, we had the Dunkel could have stayed all afternoon.Lunch is hearty-Bavarian-rustic, so bring an appetite. There are some lighter options (flammkuchen/thin pizza, baguettes and salads). No English Menu, No English spoken, it isn't that kind of place. You will be surrounded by locals popping in for lunch, a beer, a snack. If you like beer and want to avoid the tourists, then put this on our list. The u-bahn stop is 10m from the door and several teams serve Max Weber Platz.
