Awesome food! Was looking for something on beach front and found this instead. Food truck food at its finest. Triple play was perfect for the wife and myself to share.
Whenever we visit our family who live in the area, we make it a point to stop by this quirky little Fish Shak at least once. During our last visit, my in-laws were celebrating their anniversary. We took a short trip to Myrtle Beach, but due to prior dinner plans, we wouldn't make it to the Shak before closing. I reached out to the owner, and he graciously agreed to open up just for us on Sunday! We arrived with balloons and ordered a variety of drinks and combo plates, including shrimp and grouper, along with extra chips. We enjoyed our meal at the charming tiki picnic tables set up in the parking lot. My nephew, who has an egg allergy, was able to join us because the Fish Shak uses a gluten and egg-free batter—how impressive is that? Even the older members of our family—there were nine of us in total, and they can be pretty hard to please—were thrilled with their food. They have high standards: they want their meals to be piping hot, served as soon as they’re ready, and they expect the food to be juicy, not overcooked or rubbery, with plenty of sauce and napkins. They usually struggle to find a place that meets their "perfection" criteria, but The Fish Shak absolutely nailed it! I can’t recommend this place enough! You won’t be disappointed—promise!
I visited this restaurant for the first time today after hearing positive reviews and with my family eager to try it. It was only about a 10-15 minute drive from our hotel. To be honest, it was an okay experience, but I wouldn't choose to go back. My husband and I shared the XL grouper finger basket, which came with homemade chips, dill ranch, and remoulade. While the fish was hot and fresh, the breading left something to be desired; it wasn't particularly flavorful or crispy—just average. The homemade chips were quite good, though. The dips were also just okay; the ranch tasted more like something store-bought with a sprinkle of dill on top. As for the portion size, it felt more like a snack or a very light lunch. The woman working at the food truck was nice, but the location wasn't ideal, as the surrounding views were primarily of businesses and parking lots. Overall, I don't see myself returning.
I live in the Inlet, and this is my favorite spot for shrimp! They serve beautifully large shrimp, and I love all their sauces—definitely give them a try! I was pleased that the staff accommodated my special request to leave the potatoes slightly undercooked, reminiscent of my old hometown's "Raw Fries." I’ve also had them crispy, and I enjoy both styles. I'm not a big fish eater, so I haven't tried the fish dishes. If you're looking to skip the crowds found at many other places, I recommend The Fish Shak. They have great food and friendly staff!
